I NEW CANAAN.—Thc ionglalked of Con-
cert for the benefit of _St. Mnrks’s Church
Choir, comes off on Wednesday evening, at
Armory Hall. V
STRATFOBD.——St. John's Lodge, No. S,
celebrated its centennial anniversary on Sat-
urday last. Large delegations from other
lodges were present, and a procession was
formed and marched to Christ Church, where
an oration was delivered by Rev. Bro. F. C.
Ewer, of N. Y. The Histbrical address was
delivered by Rev. Bro. Stocking. Acolla-
tion was served after the exercises at the
church. Music was furnished by Tompkin’s
Band of Waterbury, and Wheelerdr Wil-
son Banfl‘of Bridgeport.
Dannuur.—The editor of the limes is an
enthusiastic politician, and is perfectly de-
lighted to follow the lead of the New Haven
. Remister, and conscientiously swallows and
endorses everything the Register says; as the
lobby at New Haven, was composed almost
entirely of friends of Gov. Buckingham and
Vice President Foster, the Register thought
Gen. Ferry had not. “the remotest prospect
of election.” Our Danbury friend thereupon
gravely informshz‘s readers that “Ferry is
knocked flatter than a pan-cake.” Last week
he talked knowinly about the Speakership
and in the list of candidates 'did not even
m'éntion Mr." Gallup‘s name. Last Spring
- it predicted the election, of Mr. English by a
' “ largemajority. The firms will soon have an
established reputation for predictions, and
will rival the Register in that line. .
Hereafter the Jefersom'an will be published
on Saturdays instead of Wednesdays. A
change for the better, as both papers are now
published in the middle of the week. .
A primary school house, to accommodate
not less than 60 scholars, is to be erected on
Balmfortb avenue. ’
The Jefereonmn says that the Bartram &
Fanton Manufacturing .30., propose to in-
crease their Capital stock and to erect in
Danbnry a large building for the manufact-
nreof the celebrated Button-hole Machines.

Saturday morning week says the It'mes,
great excitement was caused in town by the
report that an alligator, seven feet long, had
been discovered near Miry Brook. It prov-
ed to be one that belonged to Bailey‘s circus,
which died last winter.
Taylor’s New Block on the west side of
Main street, is now completed, and adds
largely to the business appearance .of the

McCoy, an Irishman living in the
. red house on Turner stre‘et,’v‘vas badly wound-
ed on Sunday, by oneJames.'Riley. McCoy,
says he attacked'him with a knife, as he lay
on the bed,,with no‘, One else present. He is
badly stabbed in the arm, groin and thigh,
and his clothes were saturated with' blood.
It is _ a wonder he;was not killed outright.
As it is he is quite feeble.
STAMFORD.—Dl1ring the summer a special
accommodation train will leave New York,

On, Monday ni ht of last week, Mr. An?
dariese’s barn on, ain street, was destroyed
by fire. Two horses in the barn were saved,
but a lot of hay was burned. Insured $200;
loss on hay, &.c., estimated at $75. . Incen-
diary. On Sunday night week, a small
‘ shanty 'on Mill River, was destroyed by fire;
incendiary.
Two tramps recently went to officer Brown
with a horrible story of supposed murder,
and Bown went down to Greenwich on a
wild goose chase; c0ming back be searched
' out the tramps and paid them 00 by arrest-
= ing them for a theft committed in Darien.
Stereoscopticon entertainments for the
benefit of Fitch’s Home, are to be given .On
Friday and Saturday evenings. '

Fire Department came off on Friday last,

embracing four Brass Bands, four Steam
Fire Engines, one Truck and three Hose
Companies. The machines were gaily deco-
rated and flags were displayed throughout.
