£111., Jan. 3d, says: The last of Hood’s
army crossed the Tennessee river, near
Brown’s Ferry, on the 29th ult., with 8
pieces, of Artillery and about 18000 men.
He. left Macon with 35,000, and was re—
inforced with Forrest’s cavalry and a por-
tion of DIL’k Taylor’s corps, swelling his
’ force to fully 40,000 men and 110 pieces,

Nashville. both armies floundercd in mud
for ten days. Grout. exertions were made
by Gen. Thomas lo rnpiurc the whole

believed that Hort] has buried and
thrown into the river at least 30 pieces
of artillery, as we have 68 pieces, and it

rebel rear guard, and on the morning of
the 27th had a brilliant encounter with

mer lost over 500 prisoners. Our official
list of prisonersat the Provost Marshal’s
office, not including the lustfive hundred
is 9,700. Over 900 descrters have also
reported. The chose has been abandon—
ed in force, although Stcdmun is across
the river with orders to harass him and
cdpture as much material as possible. I
willstate that a new campaign has been
already projected, and the respective
corps of Wood, Smith and Schoficld are
already moving.

mond and Edward Downs, Were on their
Way to Norwalk, one day last week, with
cloud of barrels, when ncur Ridgciield
Station, a man with a basket ol'groceries
hailed them, and asked to be allowed to
,‘play boy,’ that is to hitch his sled to
their sleigh and thus get a. ride. Instead
of merely passing the rope around the
post of the sleigh, boy fusbion, and keep
ing the end in his hand to slip it off if
necessary, the fellow tied it on, in a hard
knot. .When about two (““08 below the
Station, a man hailed Raymond with
‘ you’re spilling your molasses, hold up I’
and sure enough, on going to the rear
of'thc sleigh Raymond found the sled
‘still following in the wake,’ but no ‘boy’
to.be Seen. The molasses jug had turn-
ed over and a dark streak was visible

the Dark Witlrothcr ingredients to modify its action
as an astringent: Of course it was AN EXPERI-
MENT. It would not. injure—it might. do good.
The result was most surprising. A permanent cure
was effected Within a week, and there has been no
return of the difficulty for NINE YEARS, though it
‘ was oflong standing.
A second small quantity was re ared for a la

and she was cured of it. Two or three other indi:
vuluals made a trial of it,and experienced a wonder-
ful cure in throat difficulties. But with these flutter-
ing results, not a thought was entertained of ever
