All officers and soldiers belonging to Con-
necticut Regiments who are paroled priso
ners of-war. are directed to repair immediate-
ly to the Camp of Instruction established
near Annapolis, Maryland, and report for
such duty, compatible with their parole, as
may be assigned to them by the officer in
command of said camp.
All oflicers and soldiers who fail to comply
with this order, within the spacr of time ne-
cessary for them to do so, will be accounted
deserters and dealt with accordingly.
The transportation necessary to a compli-
ance with this order, can, on up lication, be

For the arrest of each and every deserter
from any Connecticut Regiment, and their
delivery to the Commandants of Regiments
within the State, or from Regiments not in
the State, to the Hartford or New Haven
Ccunty Jails, the sum of five dollars and five
cents miles e from the place of arrest to the
place of de ivery—provided the reward and
miles e does not exceed ten dollars—Will be
will y the Quartermaster General upon
presentation of a cop of the order of arrest
and a certificate of de ivory.
The Paymaster General is hereby ordered
to deduct from the sum due from the State
to any volunteer who has deserted, the
amount which may have been paid by the
Quartermaster General for his arrest and de-

The following Extracts from General 0r-
ders No. 65, current series from the War
Department, are published for the informa-
tion and government of those concerned;
“Furloughs will not be given by Captains
of Companies or Colonels of Regiments, on
any pretext whatever. .1 A furlough from such
authority will not relieve a soldier from the
charge of desertion. ' _
Enlisted men absent from their Regiments
without proper authority,are in fact deserters
and not only forfeit all pay and allowances,
but are subject to the penalties awarded by
law to such offenders. No plea of sickness
or other cause not officially established and
no certificate of a physician in civil life, un-
‘ less it be approved by some officer acting as
a Miliitary Commander, will hereafter avail
to remove the charge of desertion, or procure
arrears of pay when a soldier has been mus~
tered as absent from his regiment without
leave. ,
When no Military Commander has been
appointed the Senior Officer of the Army on
duty as Mastering or Recruiting Officers in
the place, is hereby authorized and required
to act in that capacity until another may be
appointed."
All soldiers belonging to the Connecticut
Volunteer Force who are at home on fur-
lough, and are able to return to their respec-
tive Companies, are directed to make imme-
diate application to Lieut. Col. WILLIAM A.
AIKEN, Quartermaster-General, Hartford, for
transportation, which will be furnished, with
instructions where to report.
