This Machine is one of the greatlabor-sav-
ing improvements of the age, and meets with
the unqualified approbation of all who have
seen it in operation. It will take rocks out
of the earth. of five tons weight, or less, with-
out dlgglng to relieve them, with great ease
and rapidity, and they can be drawn from
the field wlthout unloading,’and placed into
wall five feet high.
After the rocks are fitted for the hooks,
which is done by drilling two holes about
three-follrths of an inch deep, in opposite
sides of the rock, the Machine with a fair
chance, two men, two pairs of oxen and a
,, driverhwill take out and drop on the ground
near the holes, 150 rocks in 10 hours. And
as the rocks are hoisted by Ox or Hore pow-
er, there is no hard lifting for the men, and it
Is easy work for the team. With one of these
Machines, any man having a farm, can well
afford to clear it as it can be done for less
than one-quarter the best of doing it in the
ordinary way. The Machines are easily op-
perated and not liable to be broken or injur-
ed. We have many certificates from practi-
cal men, showing the efficiency of the Ma-
chines, and will here’give few of 'well known

“A simple accountof what I saw it do, will
be better, evidence of its value than any glow-
ing descriptions or high sounding phrases.—
At nine o’clock the machine was backed
over a rockshow'ing only three inches Ollt of
the ground, and in five minutes the rock was
on the surfiwefiaind {in one hour526 rocks were
lifted out, varying in weight from 300 pounds
to 6 tons, and atthe end Of two hours 45
rocks had been exhumed from their natal
beds. At the end of two hours the Operators
seized the largestrocks rhey had raised, and
laid them in a line for a wall, and when two
or three were in place, other smaller ones
were placed upon them with rapidity and
ease, the men having scarcely any part ill the
matter except hitching and unhitching the

have neve never seen any machine whose use
would prove more profitable on rocky farms
than this, In accomplishing the labor I have
described, there was no hard labor for the
men or team. This is the machine to precede
the Mower aud'Horse-Rake on great num-
bers of our New England farms, and facili-
tate their culture, and increase their crops
and profits. Several persons who looked up-
on the operation of this machine with me, es-
timated that it would take two men, such as
are now commonly employed upon our New
England Farms, ann two pairs of oxen four
days to do what the machine did in two
hours. I think they were correct.

BOLLES STONE-Dressin—We have lately
seen thisMachine and cannot withhold our
testimony in regard to its advantages. It is
certainly much superior to any other machine
of this kind we have ever seen.“ It is simple
in its construction, no part giving way under
any fair'trial; and is easily Operated; We are
confideut'it will pay to clear land of stone
with this Machine, that cannot by mere man-
ual and ox-labor be profitably brought into
cultivation.” '

“It was our‘plasure to be present on Friday
at a trial Of Bolles‘ Patent Stone-digger and
Wall-layer, on the farm of Mr. H.H. Peters,
of Sonthborough, one of the most enterpri-
sing farmers in . the Commonwealth. We
saw this machine in Operation fornearly two
hours, and it worked to the entire satisfac-
tion of every one present. One farmer thor-
oughly acquainted with the busmess of clear-
ing lands of rocks, with an experience of a
quarter of a century, came on purpose _tO
condemnthe machine as a humbug, but In—
_. stead of that he'wasthoroughly converted to
-,its economical utility for the purpose des1gn-
~ed. When he- saw 'it lift boulders sunken
from three'to four feet below the surface of
the ground, where they had rested for thou-
sands of years, and of the weight of from five
-- to seven or eight tons,.and doing this 1n the
most-easy and quiet manner, it haying been
.done in-oner or two instances by five or'slx
-~"men, theoxen not being hitched to the line
at all, and in the space of three or four mm-
utes,1what could he say but approve? And
this,'like anhonest man, he did In the way
described, 20 tons of . rock, it was estimated,
were lifted in abOut fifteen minutes, thus av-
eraging more than a ton a minute. When a
"rock is liftedit can be carried and dropped
where it is wanted for wall or other purposes.
'If‘ for wall, rocks may be placed one above
another to height of five feet. _~This was
done. It is calculated that one of these ma-
chine's manned as indicated, will lift 150
rocks, large and small, in ten hours. There
is no hard lifting for men, and it is easy work
for oxen. ”It was estimated by the farmer to
whom reference has been made,that this ma-
chine would enable a farmer to do ten times
as much work in a day as after the ordinary
way of digging stones. The inventor only
pro sea, to save a little more than three-
fourths the ordinary labor. From experience
and observation, and after seeing the machine
in operation, we are confident that the farmer
is nearer right. In all the exhibitions of
farm machinery and improved implements,
we have never seen so satisfactory a demon-
stration to practical farmers as that on Fri-
day of BollcsPatentStone-Lifter—we propose
to call it so, for this expresses just what it
. does, and is, therefore, a more appropriate
, mid significant name. _
This machine may, we think, be regarded
as the precursor of the general introduction
of the mowing-machine in New England. ,,
