Southern Africa at the Capeof Good

cow as to one stricken. The disease can
make wonderful progress in the animal
before there are any symptoms of. The
principal symptoms, are a “ starring” of
the hair ; it stands a great deal, with the.
nose projecting to give more free access
to the air ; when they walk too fast they
pant, and seem distressed for breath.
A law should be passed making it nee--
cessary" for anyman finding any disease
in his cattle to report immediately to the

them isolated, under heavy fines and pen-
alties. It is the most momentous ques—
tion that has come before the people of
this country for a score of years. The
industry of the farmer will be almost de- .
strayed by the spread of disease. An.“-
rican missionary is present at North
Brookfield, who states that the disease
was imported into Africa by a Dutch
bull, and spread along the coast $1,300
miles until it was stopped by the active
measures of his colony, who resolutely
cut off all intercourse with the infection.
