THE CATTLE DISEASE—The Massachusetts
Committee to investigate and check the pleu-'
ro-pneumonia, hold a sort of, conference at

. West Brookfield, Mass, morrow, the 9th,
They expect to meet cat breeders and dole.

rural societies, and discuss among other thin
the pro riety of holding any cattle fairs this
year. cveral gentlemen from this state will
attend. The committee have killed 387 cat-
tle. It is thought that the worst of it is over,
but there are many cases yet. It is very de-
ceptive, all its characteristics being found in
cattle, who, while alive, gave no indications

of its presence, except as discovered by aus-
cultation and percussion, conducted b a skil.

By the way, it is stated in various papers

The Cattle Distemper.

The Massachusetts Commissioners, togeth-
er with a large number of interested parties,
met at ' North Brookfi'eld, yesterday, for. the
purpose of making further investigations into
the alarming cattle distemper which prevails
in that district. . The Commissioners will be
in attendance all . this week, and continue
their daily» killing of the infected" cattle, so
that those who desire to make a ' ‘ nal ex-
amination eandoiso. John A. aintor, Esq.,
of this city, dealing largely in. imported .cat-
tle, naturally takesa deepinterest in thesub-
ject. [He yesterday Visited the infected dis-
trict, _and fouudmatters’reallymorse than; he '
had expected. Over 500‘ head had already
been killed, ’and 500 more are to be killed, in-
cluding all the cattle in a district ‘about' four
miles square. . Whole herds are being slaugh—
tered; one'man lOsing 73 head. Deep pits are .
dug and ' the _' whole animal thrown 'in and

buriediout of_sight. Thirty head were killed. '
