We purchase the best alcohol of 95 per
cent, and will use no other for the manufac-
tacture of this article, the result is that it
burns .well and quite a number of hours Ion -
er to the gallon than the poor article that 18
made up of cheap stock and consequently re-
tailed at from four to-six cents per gallon less
than ..we can sell ours for (but being in reality
much more expensive and troublesome to the
consumer) and thus it is you daily hear so
many complaining that F uid is not as good
as it used to be, because, they will not pay
the cost of a good article.

a saving annually of from 30 to 40 per cent. in
the cost of the manure.”

Prior. J. J. Mares. :—As an act of common
justice to you, and I hope encouragement to
owners of poor land, I will say that I bought
six hundred pounds of Super-Phosphate of
'our son last May, and applied it to an acre of
and in Westchestcr County, which had been
so thoroughly exhausted that it failed to pro-
duce a decent crop of corn in 1858, even With
a moderate dressing of manure; and my
neighbor told me it was no use for me to plant
it, but I did, though not till June. The land
was badly plowed ; planted too late; Ipoorly
tended; and‘the season was bad; but got a
fair crop of corn: such an one as I was not
ashamed of. Hence, I infer, that Super-Phos-
phate has some value, as the land had no oth-
er Fertilizer. I applied one-half at planting,
and one after the first plowing, which I did
with your “Subsoil Lifter.” he soil is the
decayed granite. of that region, mixed with
loam and pebbles, and looked as poor as a
lover of poverty could possibl desire. I am
satisfied that if I' had not app ied the Super-
Phosphate. I should not have had corn
eno hto feed an old hen through the win-
ter. not on] have good, large, sound ears,
but stalks ten eet'high.

of worn out land, not capable of producing
ten or twelve, bushels of grain to the acre by

seeded it down to grass and grain crops in the
fall of 1858. ,
It has given me over thirty bushels of White
Rye 1' acre, and .astand of grass equal to
any ever saw.-_ The rest of 14 tons I pur-
chased of you was used on other sections of
my farm, and 'I am more than satisfied with

Mix thoroughly with three or four times its
bulk of decomposed muck, headlands, char-
coal, or the earth itself wheu‘the other divi-
sers cannot be procured, and apply either in
hill or row, at the rate of from 200 to 600 lbs.
per acre—one third at time of sowing, and the
balance at the first and second hoeing. On
grass land it can be sowed broadcast, having
been mixed with a diviser. »
