Pa ‘. J. J. Mares :-—As an act of common
justiéo you. and I hope encouragement to
owne of poor land, I will say that I bought
six hundred pounds of Super-Phosphate of
your son last May, and applied It to an acre
of lundin Westehester’ county, which had
been so thoroiiglily exhausted that. it failed
to produce adeccut crop of corn in l858,
even with a moderate dressing of manure ;
and my neighbor told me it was no use for
me to plant it, but 1 did, though not till
June. The land was badly plowed, planted
too late and poorly tended, and the season
was bad, but 1 got a fair crop of corn, such
an one as I‘wus not ashamed of. Hence I in-
fer that Super-Phosphate has some value, as
the land had no other Fertilizer. I applied
one half at planting. and one after the first
plowing, which I did with your“Siibsoil Lift-
er.” The soil is the decayed granite of that
region,mixed‘ with loam and pebbles, and
looked as poorhs a lover of poverty could
possibly desire. I am satisfied that if I had
not-applied the Super-Phosphate. I should
not have had corn enough to feed an old hen
through the winter. I not. only have good
large sound ears, but stalks ten feet high.

phate of Lime iii my garden and in my fields
of corn and potatoes. I knew of no other
manure that is as good for the garden or the
crops ; so far as I have tried it. Ideem it bet-
ter than the best Guano for the above use.

Phosphate. I would state that on twenty
acres of worn out land, notcapablc of produ-
cing ten or twielve bushels of grain to the
acre by ordinary means, I applied 500 lbs. of
your Nitrogeuized Super Phosphate per acre,
and seeded it down to grass and grain crops
in the fall of 1858.
It has given me over thirty bushels of
while Rye per acre, and a stand of grass
equal to any I ever saw. The rest of the 14
tonsI purchased of you was used on other
sections of my farm, and I am more than sat-

ing. On Grass land it can be solved broad-
