It is a remarkable fact, that among the ’tliirtv mil-

World, there are but few, and those mostly among our
most learned men, who are in any great degree familiar
with the lilstory of the wars of the great \l’umpnnoafi‘
Chieftain, Kixc: I’mLIP, against the colonists of Ned"
England, and their Indian lilies, the Molicgniis. During
this saugninary struggle. many scenes were enacted or
the most startling and thrilling description, and many
adventures made, by both the white and the red man
almost too wonderful! to be believed. Little, indeed iii
known of the savage and the merciless scenes enacted
at 'l‘iverton, 'l‘aunmn, Dartmouth, Swauzey, Brookficld,
Lancaster, Dcertield, llndlcy, and other towns of the
Colony ; and legs, much less, is known of the “Massa-
ere of Bloody Brook,” an event which struck more ter~
ror to the hearts of the colonists, and gave the Indians
more courage and confidence, than any event of the
war. On the field ol'Bluody Brook, “The Flower of Es-
sex,” a band of nearly a hundred young, enterprising.
adventurous men. were attacked by a powerful band of
savages, who had been lying in ambush, and indiscrim-
inately butchered before they hall an opportunity to
inzikea defense. Eight only escaped to relate the fate
of their comrades. All the rest. pl'l'lslled on that blondv
plain by the rifles, tomahawks. war-clubs and seaming.-
knives ofa thousand infuriated savages.
The most remarkable scenes and adventures of this
most savage war. form the basis of the new Indian llo‘
munce, by ILL-RY HAZEL.
The characters portrayed in tnis work are the men
and women of those rude, semibarburoim davs ; and in
no war, embraced in the history of the Anglil-Saxon or
Algonquin races, was there ever more heroism, more
devotion, more sacrifices, mine hardships, more hellish
intrigue. more. inhuman actunnore subtlety and french-
cry. than during the terrible struggle which began in
1661 and ended in 1077, commonly known as ‘1 King
Philip’s War.”
The author has selected the most thrilling and inter-
esting events of that snuguinnry period. at the same
time only those which serve to develope 1. most. ingeni-
ously-contrived and mysterious plot—one that cannot
fail to encliain the reader's attention until its full and
final dcvelopement.
Those who have reail the previous productions from
the pen of HARRY HAZEL. do not require to be told that
there is no man now living who can compete with him
in a story of this character. He stands unrivalled iii
