Resolutions passed at the close of M'nLord’s
Course in Philadelphia, Feb. 23.
Wm. Darrach, M. D., being called to the
Chair, and Rev. D. Malin, D. D., appointed
Secretary, Isaac Elliott, Esq ., offered the fol-
lowrng Resolutions, which were unanimously
adopted : " ‘ '
1. Resolved, That the Rev. Jonx Lonn’s
Course of Six Lectures on the“ Representa-
tive Men of Modern Civilization,” are char-
acterized by a sound and philosophical esti-
mate of their characters, labors and results,
and are well calculated to create a thirst for
historical research ; refine and elevate the
literary taste; inspire lofty, patriotic and
Christian sentiments ; correct a morbid ap-
petite for ephemeral literature, and lead all
classes, but especially the young, to appre-
ciate what is noble and virtuous in character
and acts.
2. Resolved, That Ma. Loan deserves the
thanks of the citizens of Philadelphia. for
his Course just now closed; and is hereby
invited to deliver another Course of Twelve
Lectures on Ecclesiastical History ; and the
meeting would expresss a desire that such an
arrangement may be made by which our
youth generally, and especially those in our
Schools, may be able to attend. 7

Dn. LonD’s Lucretius—Dr. Lord delivered
a lecture on Monday evening, to a crowded
audience at Clinton Hall, on the Life and
Characterof Oliver Cromwell. Itdrew forth
frequent and hearty applause. At the close
of the Lecture, the Hon. Samuel B. Ruggles
called the attention of the audience, and, on
motion, the President, Horace Webster, was
called to the chair? Mr. Ruggles then offered
the following resolutions, which were second~
ed in a speech by the Rev. Dr. Asa D. Smith
and unanimously adopted :
Resolved, That we regard it a peculiar
privilege .to have listened to the admirable
historical lectures of‘the Rev. Mr. Lord, pre-
senting faithful and glowing pictures,iu lan-
guage at once vigorous and original, eloquent
and descriptive, of the men, the morals, the
arts, and the governments of other ages.
Resolved. That this‘American community
of ours, in its comparative isolation from the
older world, and its historical traditions,‘has
reached a point in its onward march, where
it particularly needs the instruction and gold,.
once derived from historical knowledge, and
a comparison of our present civilization with
that ot’other countries apd epochs, so that
the attentive study of their history has now
become a matter of general public necessity.
Resolved, That we know no way in which
that study can be made more generally at-
tractive and instructive, than public lectures
like those which have just closed—so replete
with accurate knowledge, artistic ‘feeling.
lofty principle. and sound Christian morality.
Resoloed. That we respectfully invite Mr.-
Lord to extend his course to such length as
he may find convenient.

ESTATE of ADOLPH HAMBURGER, an
insolvent debtor of Greenwich, in said
District, assigned in trust for the benefit of
his creditors under,and pursuant to the stat-
ute law of this state, entitled “ An Act for
the Relief of Insolvent Debtors, and for the
more equal distribution of their effects among
their creditors,” passed A. D. 1853.
Upon the application of said Adolph Ham-
burger,sbowing to this court that He had ful-
ly complied with all provisions and require-
ments of said Act incumbent on him to do
and perf‘orm,in order to be entitled to have
the oath or affirmation provided in the 9th
section of said Act administered to him, that
he may be entitled to the benefits and privi-
leges provided in the 10111 section of'satd Act,
and that he has not in any way or manner
done or performed any act or thing contrary
to the provisions of said Act, or which should
hinder or prevent him from being on-
titled to the aforesaid benefits and privileges,
and praying this Court to appoint a time and
place when a hearing or enquiry shall be had
before said Court, as to the truth of the alle-
gations aforesaid, and the oath or affirmation
provided in the 9111 section of said Act he by
him made and submitted ;
Therefore this Court doth order that Mon-
day the 23d day of May, 1859, at 9 o’clock,
forenoon, at the Probate Office in said G reou~
wich. be appointed for the hearing and iu~
quiry afbresaid,aud the administering of the
oath or affirmation aforesaid, pursuant to
the act aforesaid, and directs that notice be
given by advertising in two weekly newspa-
pcrs printed in Fairficld County, and by post
ing a notice thereofon the sign post in said
Greenwich, nearest the place where said
