delegates the other evening. Speaking
of Arnold, he said :
“ But there is one man and one town
that he has some regard for, and that
town is Haddam, and that man’s liimsclf.

York, the other day, I met in Middlesex
county Democrat, and I referred to the
recent appointment of a mail agent. “ml
asked his name. He answered Charles
Arnold, a brother of the present member
of Congress. Where does he reside ? I I1

named Robert Dale Owen Smith who
has received an eighteen hundred dollar

son of Mr. Arnold I Where does- he re-

gentlemen who recently received the ca-
detship from this district? He replied,

3-The following facts in relation
to the fatal collision in the harbor, a
year or two since, have not, we believe,
before been made public. The Cunard
steamer Niagara in coming up the har-
bor had a collision‘ with schooner Harri-
et Maria, of Orleans, by which one of the
crew, Daniel Higgins, was drowued.—
The matter of damages was left to refer-
ees, who, after a patient and l.ll0l‘_0l1gll
examination, came to the decision that '
" the schooner was wholly to blame in the
matter, the owner of the steamer not be-
ing liable for the loss of the vessel. N et-
withstanding its award, the Cunard Com-
pany decided to pay the costs of the ref-
erees, and also sent to this city the sum
of one thousand dollars, to be divided be-
tween the persons who were siilfcriiig by
the nccident.—Boston Traveller.
