Celebration at Danbury.
The firemen of Danbury celebrated the
laying of the cable, on Wednesday even-
ing, lst instant, in fine style, with a pro-
cession, transparancies, bonfires, illumina-
tions, &c. '
The Times Speaks in glowing terms of
the affair. The Wooster House was illu-
minated from the basement to the ocserv-
atory, presenting a splendid sight. “ On
a wire attached to the top of the house
and suspended over the street, was a large
transparency of colored lights, bearing the
name of the hero of the “ cable.” A few
rods lower down, from the residence Of
N. Barnum, Esq., there was passing and
repassing over the telegraph wire, a tran-
sparency with the name of Hudson and
Field. About the same distance above, a
line 01 fire-balls was suspended over. the
street from Military-hall, adding its light
to a large bon-fire underneath. From this
point the procession passed “Pfhl'ough
Main st., returning through River and
West streets into Main street, passing
down to South street. Numerous private
residences on the route down were exten-
sively illnminated.’ Among others that of
Major Tweedy, where the initials Of the
Atlantic Telegraph were worked in ever-
greens, and “ the Cable” exhibited in the
largest transparency out. The residence
of Dr. Wm. F. Lacy, Horace Marshall,
and Charles Hull were finely lighted. In
every respect tlfe aii'air was creditably
conducted, and shows what the firemen
and citizens of Danbury can do, when
they undertake a thing in earnest.” '
