This case was presented as an action on
the “ Mix Law,” in which defendant’s
body had been attached for judgement for
costs recovered by D. B. Booth as War-
den of the Borough of Daubury, in a suit
in New York brought by defendant
against Booth. After the Opening of the
case, and the hearing of the plaintifi’s ev-
idence by the jury, the defendant moved
t 10 Judge to direct a non-suit. The .
.J'udge took the matter for consideration!
over night when the counsel for plaintili ,
came into Court and stated that he had '
mistaken the form of action, and entered
a “ nolle” as to all charge of fraud, and
asked the permission of the Jude‘s”e “0
amend the declaration by OBIS“): all
claims and charge of fraud. '1 his the dc-
fendant opposed. "he Jud8'c t°°k the
case from the jury, and Sfllll he \VOIlld
reserve his decision on Plaintiff’s motion
to amend until the opening of the Court,
the present week.

ted on Tuesday to a young lady of very
prepossessiug appearance who personally
requested our_ reporter not to state the

of the New York Times says there is a
rumor that there was a. postscript in the
communication of Victoria to our Presi-
dent, which was omitted in the publica-
tion. It is as follows :
“You will oblige me by expressing
yourself cautiously replying to my tele-
gram, as I wished to avoid giving Albert
any jealous or unpleasant feelings, which
would, you know, very naturally be crea-
ted by my speaking with a. bachelor.

Messrs. Johnson, Hall, Miller and
Green, who were attending a private pri—
mary meeting at the “ Pitcher and Three
Glasses,” resolved. that it was a. great
thing, and was an additional cause for
supporting the general administration.

Treasury, the Hon. John C. Spencer,
gave utterance to a plirophesy which has
been fulfilled in the complete success of
the Atlantic Telegraph Company, as fol-
lows : ‘

is that a. telegraphic communication on
the clectro-magnetic plan may with cer-
tainty be established across the Atlantic
Ocean. Startling as this may now ap-
pear, I am confident the time will come
when this project will be realized.
