The principal suite of saloons will be
400 feet in length, and a promenade
around the deck will afford a walk of

both shapes, screw and paddle, with sail-
ing power. She will carry’ 11,000 tons
of coal, will be lighted by gas made on
board, and the electric light will flicker
at night from her masthead. She will
spread 6,500 yds; of canvass, and her
speed is computed at 15 knots or 16 miles

voyage to India. by the Cape, and to
Australia, in little more than a month.

A LONG J oUnxni'.——Samuel Clay, Jr.,
of Bourbon county, Kentucky, has just
returned from Mexico, where he has been
purchasing mules and horses. He suc-
ceeded iu purchasing about three hundred
mules and forty horses, which he drove to
Illinois, through Texas, the Indian Terri-
tory and Missouri, a distance of two
thousand miles. The stock now upon the
prairies recruiting. W'licn they are fat
enough they will be driven to New Haven
Couii., and them shipped to the West.
Indies, which is certainly a. very roniid-
about way to reach the I-‘Vest Indies from
the Rio Grande.

Thursday says : “Mr. Benjamin S. D ty,
of Ciirrituck Co., N. C., while ploughing
in his field a few days ago, dug up a pile
of old Spanish gold and silver coins to the
amount of about six thousand dollars.—
It is supposed to have been buried during
the Revolution, and the accident that led
to the discovery wasinostsiiigular. It ap-
pears that an old.pine tree had fallen near
the fence of Mr. Dey’s farm, and one of
the branches stuck in the spot where the
money was found. As the tree was an
obstruction to those engaged in ploughing
it was raised from its position, when it
was discovered that the old branch had
several pieces of the coin sticking to it.——
They then went to work and dug down
to the depth of about 4 feet, when they
were startled by the discovery of this
large amount of money. Every eye that
. looked upon the shiners, we are told, be-
came as big as moons’ and one of the ne-
groes, who assisted in raising the tree, on
seeing the money striekiiig to the limb,
much amazed at the sight, liallocd out———
“IVliy Massa Dey, what am dat ?-—I
wonder if he gro dar-—well, well, dis am
the fus time I eber seed money groin on
do pine tree.” A yoke of oxen was soon
hitched to the treasure, and it was car-
ried to the house of Mr. Dey, where it
can be seen. ,
" This, we assure our readers, is no
hoax ; ‘and it rather gives credence to the
tradition that there was money deposited
on that part of the Coast by Blackbeard,
the pirate.”

B6" A couple of young sprouts of Amer-
ican blood, made their appearance before
a Detroit Justice the other day and re-
quested to be united in the holy bonds of
matrimony. Their ages, judging from
their looks, was about twelve and four-
teen. They claimed a right to demand
the performance of the ceremony, the
‘young man twirling a t.en spot around his
finger with much nonclialance. , The
yoiiug lady, holding upon her hand, swore
roundly that she was “ over fourteen,”
when in walked the paternal ancestors
of the two young hopefuls and a general
disconcertion of their plans followed.——
They were about being led off by the ear
to their manners, ‘when Justice Purdy re-
quested the young lady to explain how
she dared to take the oath" that she knew
must be false. Nothing disconcerted, she
stooped down, and unlacing a little gaiter
drew out a. piece of paper on '20/tic/I, was
irrittcn the word “fou.rtec~n.” On the
strenth of this she had sworn that she was
“ over fourteen.” That young lady ought.
