Acres, on Grand Street, about one mile
east of Railroad Station, are to be enclosed.
A general (Inhibition of the MANUFAC-
TURES of the State will be made, and suita-
ble tents and erections provided.
A HALL, one hundred feet long, with Steam
Power attached, f'or the exhibition of Macliinc-
ry, is provided. Persons designing to exhibit
machinery are requested to give early notice
of their intention.
All entries of. Articles and Stock, for exhi-
bition, must be made on the books of the Cor-
responding Secretaty, Henry A. Dyer) at New
Haven, on or before MONDAY. Oct. 6th. and
the articles and stock must be on the ground
and entered in the Jud ge’s book before 9
o’clock, A. M. on Tuesday, Oct. 7th. with ac-
companying statements as required in the pre-
mium lists. »
The Executive Committee will meet at the
ofiice of the Society in the State House, New
Haven, on Monday, at 7 o’clock, P. M., Oct. 6,
and the Judges are requested to report them-
selves to the Secretary, previous to that time.
so that vacancies may be filled. Monday will
be devoted to the arrangement of the articles
and stock for exhibition. ’
On TUESDAY, the 7th, at 9 o’clock, A. M.,
the Judges will enter upon their examinations,
and all persons are strictly prohibited from
intruding upon the Judges, or being present
at their examinations and deliberations, except
those who have charge of the articles. The
Grounds will open on Tuesday to the members
of the Society, at 9 o’clock, A. M. Members
will be furnished with a Badge and Five Tick-
ets, labelled “ Admit a Member,” which will
afford five admissions, on presenting a badge,
and delivering up a ticket for each person ad-
mitte .
On WEDNESDAY, the 8th, the Exhibition
will be open to the public, and continue open
three days. Life Membership. $15 ; Fee for
Annual Membership, $1 ; Single tickets of Ad-
mission, 25 cents, which may be obtained of
the Clerks in the office at the entrance of the
grounds. Admission of Carriages, with two
horses, one dollar ; Carriages with one horse,
50 cents each, with a ticket for each person
contained in the carriage.
Trial of Working Omen
Will take place on WEDNESDAY, at 1 o’clock,
P. M., with loaded carts, on the ground.
On WEDNESDAY, the
Exhibition of Horses
will commence at 10 o’clock, A. M., and con-
tinue through Thursday, in the order of the
premium lists. A fine HALF MILE TRACK is
prepared for the exhibition. Seats will be
provided at a charge of 12 l 2 cents each.
THURSDAY MORNING, at 10 o’clock, the
Plowing Match
will take place within the enclosed grounds.
The land will be prepared, and the teams hav-
ing been duly entered, must be promptly on
the ground.
On FRIDAY, at 11 o’clock, A. M., Hon.
THOMAS B. BUTLER will deliver the
Annual Address,
in the Tent within the Grounds, where seats
will be prepared for invited guests and ladies.
At its conclusion, the REPORT OF THI’.
JUDGES will be read, and the Premiums, as
awarded, announced ; after which, it is expect-
ed that persons having articles of any descrip-
tion on exhibition, will take charge of them.

In the ordinary ram. the valve rests upon the
aperaturc it is designed to close, presciitinga
much larger upper surface for the pressure in
the air chamber than in the area. on the lower
surface, on which the water acts in opening it ;
consequent] y, the pressure per square iucli re-
quired to lift the valve is as inurzli greater in
proportion as the area of the upper surface is
greater than the area of the aper:iturc—-~lieii(:c
the great loss of power.
The principal improvement in this over oth-
er water rams, consists in the upper and lower
surfaces of the valve opening-into the air
chamhers—being of the same area. the pres-
sure pcr square inch required to open it isbiit
slightly greater than that in the air chamber ;
consequently, there is no loss of power in its
action—he-nce its ability to throw more water
than other rams which. having valve seats, are
liable to catch and retain sand or gravel, and
thereby to leak and get. out of order. Other
important advantages will be apparent in view-
ing it while in operation.

THE Pipes are connected with the ram with
brass screw couplings, and the air cham-
ber and body of the ram is. put together with
cotter wedges, and can be taken apart and re-
stored in one minute.
Although the prices of the above rams are
more than the common order of rams, yet their
intrinsic ‘value is more than ten times greater.

SIR : In reply to your note, Iwould say that
you placed one of your No. 3 hydraulic rains
upon my premises, about eighteen months ago,
Dear a reservoir of water which is supplied by
an unfailing spring. This reservoir is nearly
three hundred yards from my dwelling, and
with a fall of eight. feet you elevated the wa-
ter seventy-eight feet, to a.tank in the upper
story, from whence it is distributed by pipes
in various directions. The rain delivers in the
tank about 1,600 gallons daily; and by this
means a fountain seventeen feet in diameter
and three feet deep is kept constantly full of
running water, and a jet is furuislied which
can throw it more than twenty feet into the
air. The surplus not used. about 1.200 gallons
each day, serves to water the terraces, plan ts
and flowers. This instrument works constant-
ly, winter and summer, without freezing. and
without cessation, with no muscle to grow
weary. no nerve to relax, no breast to feel
faintiicss. Its value to me can hardly be'esf.i-
mated, as it furiiislies us with an uiistintod
supply of the pure:-f. water, wliicli we lavishly
use without the least regard to economy in its
employment. If‘ my opinion can be of any
service to the public, you iiiay express it in
any form you please.
