mixed with cut hay or sgraw, articles

I should not object to giving a horse
I feed of corn and cob iiietil occasional-
ly, mixing it with cut hay and a little
salt. Salt is a good aiitiseptic ; prevents
fermentation ; affords, by the decoiiiposi-
{ion in the stomach, iiiiiriatic acid and
soda; aids digestion and prevents the
generation of worms. The best reme-
dies for restoring iligestitte fuiictioiis are ;

of coal on fire, or perhaps the same vein
in three different localities, in the an-
thecitc coal fields of Peiinsylvania, but
they have all beenjgiiiteil by the care-
lessness of the miners. The first was
set on fire at Coal castle riicuy years ago
and is still biiriiirig, like a slumberiiig
volcano, having destroyed, probably mil-
lions of tuns of coal as the vein is the cel-
ebrated " Jtigiilar,” whicli varies from 60
120 feet in tliickiiess. The second was to
recently set on fire at Tnniaqua by some
miners who were digging: their wiuter‘s
coal at the outcropping of the vein; and
the third is the siiject of rt-mark at
Beaver Meadow‘

ties the writer, that by mixing the fine

and drying the composition in the form
of brick, oi; whatever form they please it
will make as good a fire, burn as long,
and be in every way as convenient as the
prepared coal now offered for grates and
stoves.

The miners may not thank us for this"
bit ofinformation, but the coal compa-
nies can have no objection as it may
make their dirt as valuable as the coal
itself.
