tlié-"State-‘Fair is fast approaching. The
ground is now being enclosed, and the
work‘ will be pushed forward with ener

manufacturers and artists should alike
be interested in the success "of this great
undertaking, and‘ strive to render it
worthy the State of whose agricultural,
mechanical and artistic skill it will be
exponent.

Theifirst annual Fair of the State So
cie’ty"~wa's held at New Haven during
the_'"montli of October, 1854, The result
wasflattering and satisfactory, and the
institution was at once placed upon a
firm foundation. The good resiilting‘
from theseyearly displays is incalculable.
Their influence will he felt farand wide,
while the experience drawn from them
will be of lasting value to the agricultu-
ral and manufacturing interests of the
State;

Hartford is centrally situated, and ev-
ery way‘ suitable for an exhibit.ion of the
kind contemplated. Railroads from ev-
ery section of the State here come to-
gellier, and the manufacturer can easily
and safely transport specimens of‘ his in-
dustrial skill to and from the Fair with
convenience and dispatch. And we trust
this department will be strongly repre-
sented. ‘

Few States surpass Connecticut in the
variety and extent of its manufactures-—
Steatn Engines, Rifles and Pistols which
we challenge the whole civilized world
to beat,—'—'Clocks wliich tell the departure
of theihonrs in palace and in cot, the

imported-—Carpets unsurpassed by fab-

fair, but being experimental, as are all

trees, and. those who desire to obtain. new
varieties of fruit by this method nirist at-

of our fruit trees which ceaseth to put
on new growth, and unless the budding
is performed before the bark clings to the
wood, it may as well be left undone.-
Apples may he budded any time in Au-
gust, or the first half of September, pro-
vided the warm weather conii:nues.—
Peaches may be let alone till the last of
September. The process of budding is
extremely simple, and may be readily
learnedand practiced. It should be per-
formed only upon young trees.

Hones PROVENDER —-The best horse
provender, says the Maine Farmer, that
we ever used, was a mixture of two-
thirds oat meal and one-third corn meal.
The oat meal has been thought by some
physiological chemists to contain much
muscle or flesh forming matter and the
cornmeal to contain much fat forming
material; and therefore, when combined
together, we get both principles unitcri.

Bounty Land Warrants.

Y an Act of Congress, passed at the last
session, all Soldiers and Marines who
served 14 days in any War since 1790—and all
seamen and flotilla men who have served on
board of any armed boat or vessel of the Uni-
ted States, in any Wat since 1790. are entitled
to 160 acres of Bounty Laud. When the sol-
dier is dead, his widow will receive the land.
If no widow survive, then the minor children
receive it. All soldiers who served 14 days
in the Revolution are entitled, and if (lead,
then the widow will receive it.

- The Ships allowance of provisions comprises
flour, oat-meal, bread, potatoes, peas or beans,
rice and vinegar, which is dealt out._ to the
passengers once or twice it week during the
voyage, at. the rate .10 1-2 lbs. per week , for
each adult. and half allowance for children
under 12 years;;.and in addition to the above,
it further allowance, according to a late act of
the British Parliament. two oz. tea. half lb.
sugar, and half-pound molasses, to each adult,
weekly, with three qnai-ts water daily. In all
cases where any of the persons paid for de-
cline coming out, the full passage money is
returned without any deduction. -

"Persons residing in the country that desire
to send money to their friends in the Old
Country, and wishing to save time and ex-
pense, can have it done in a sittixfaictory and
correct manner, by enclosing by post, to the
subscribers the sum which the wi.-sh to send,
with the name and address of the narty who is
to receive it, wnen it draft on the nearest
Branch to their residence will be f‘oi-worded by
the first Steamer with as much punctuality as
if the person sending it was present. and it re-
ceip returned for the money by next mail.
