' Rachel is newest novelty and latest
furore, She made her first appearance
here at the Metropolitan Theatre on
Mondayeveuiiig, and the affair. is al-
ready a failure. It has in fact been bad-
ly managed. In the first place compar-
tively few of our citizens understood
French,and-those who do are not alto-
gether inclined to pay the extravagant
price of $3 for a ‘lesson, for in reality
the monotonous character of French

tion little betterythan a piece of splendid
declaration. Secondly, the troupe by

mile, The lady--—who is no chicken
now——is well known to be of no fami-
ing order. On the contrary, she is no-
toriously one of the most flirty of the--
by no means tender-hearted——Hebrew

To advert to affairs of another order,
an lnstii ution lately established here un-
der the auspices of Dr. O’Brien and Dr.
Jonson, formerly Surgeon Dentist to Her
Britannia Majesty, is at present exciting
much attention in scientific circles. It
is for the purpose of affording instruc-
tion in Dental Surgery and Mechanism,
and is calculated to supply a want that
has long existed in the Metropolis,
which while Cincinnati, Philadelphia
and other towns all have their dental
colleges, has hitherto presented no op-
portunity whatever for affording ins-
truction in this now important branch
