Barbecue at Dubuquo.-The citizens
of Duboque celebrated the completion of
the Illinois Central Railroad to that
point, and the lighting of the city with
(gas, by I barbecue and other festivities,,
on the 18th. Invitations were sent

highest ofier for Nicolott Island, 40
acres, and last summer 835,000 was re-
fused. The increase of manufacturing

Death Caused by a Cor-pre.—In a
farm house near Liberty, Missouri, the
mistress of the house became ill one
morning, having according to symptoms
received an attack of the cholera. Her
husband had left the house at daybreak,
and her only daughter, who was then
with her, sent for a physician. After a
few hours‘ the latter arrived, was met at
the door by, the sobbing girl with the
cry, "She is dead!” He was directed
to the room where the corpse lay, ex-
amined it, and directed the daughter not
to allow tne interment until twenty-four
hours had elapsed. He had scarcely
done so, when the corpse nodded signifi-
cantly. The daugliier saw this motion,
and was so horrified that she fell dead on
the spot. It is a well known fact that
persons who die of the cholera retain

frequently alarming bystanders by con-
traction of the muscle.
