Grapes.-—-According to my experience
the most productive way of growing the
American grape, is to let it climb into a
tree. In April, 1849.1 planted out some
Ionbcllau, from cuttings of a previous
spring, on the south sideof a clone board
fence, and allowed them to run wild, for
an experiment, into some peach trees on
the other or north side of the fence.-
From that time to the present they have
never been touched by a knife, forI hired
to see them riot in their native luxuri-
ance. They annually hear an immense
profusion, so enormously indeed, that it
moat be witnessed to be credited. They
have, however, nearly destroyed their
Illpporters, which of course, I could not
prune on account of the grapes; but the
latter hide the long naked branches of
the peaches consequent upon the desen-
tude of the pruning knife. So says a
Canada correspondent of the Horticultu-
net.

Aromatic Schiedam Schnapps,” that the
Prolnbxtory Liquor act, in his view of the
case, is _not likely to interfere with the sale of
that artlcle for medicinal purposes he urges
now, as he has urged heretofore, that it be
exclusIvely confined. His interpretation of
the 1st and 22nd sections of the law has
strong arguments in its support, and it is
quite likely that no attempt will be made to
prevent him from doing business under them.
There _Is much force in his remark that the
permcmus effects produced by the use of adul-
terated liquor, are among the leading causes
wlnch have led to to the enactment of the
lpreseutlaw ; and although he does not exact-
y endorse the measure as it stands, he admits,
as all conscientious men admit, that restric-
tions on the sale of liquor much more strin-
gent than those now in operation, were im-

Bull’s new and superior Grape, the stock of
which is placed in their hands f'or sale. This
very'rcmarkable American variety is the grea-
test acquisition. that has ever yet been made to
our hardy native Grapes. and supplies the de-
sideratum so long wanted. of a superior table
Grape, sufiiciently hardy to withstand the col-
dest climate, and early enough to ripen its
fruit in any part of the Northern or New En-
gland States. It is four weeks earlier than
the Isabella, about two weeks earlier than the.
Diana. It is fully ripe from the 3d to the 10th
of September. and fine specimens have been
exhibited the last two years, at that date. be-
fore the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.
It is a most vigorous growing vine, perfect-
ly hardy, with bunches of large size, hand-
somely shouldered, often weighing a pound,
and with large rcumlish oval berries, frequent-
ly measuring an inch in diameter, color very
dark, covered with a thick blue bloom, flesh
soft, tender and juicy ; flavor very rich and
luscious, with a fine sprightly aroma. The
foliage is large, broad, and thick, and the her-
ries have never been known to mildew, rot or
drop ofl‘ under any circumstances during the
five years since it has borne fruit. Good jud-
ges who have tasted it pronounce it superior
to the Isabella in its ripest condition.

through which the fish pass and cannot return.
A wing from 9 to 15 feet long, extends from
each side of the front hoop. The Fyke is used
for taking fish in Sounds. Rivers, Lakes,
Ponds, Creeks, &c., and is set so that it encom-
passes the ground where the fish run,by which
large numbers are taken. They hrs-. made of
various sizes, and cost from $2 50 to $20.-
They are simply constructed, and easily man-
aged, and often pay for themselves at the first
