in certain localities where the atit existed

The prospects for the future wheat
crop seem to ‘ be everywhere favorable.
Th, \ etroit Free Press says that in all
parts of Michigan the winter wheat is

Stovve, formerly of Ohio, now of Massachusetts,

1. Webster is the most uniformly analogi-
cal and self-consistent.

2. His system falls in mostcornpletely with
the tendencies of the language; and if in any-
thing he goes beyond present usage it is in the
right direction, and the usage will soon over-
take him.

3. He has present possession of the ground
more than any other one. In the United
States he is the out/iorily, everywhere, except
in Boston, and even there, more than any'oth-
er one. In England he has more than any
other one, and is continiially gaining.

4. He is the great Jinicriiran Pbilologist,
the most learned and devoted scholar in his
special department that the English knows;
and for this reason, other things being equal,
he deserves the preference.

5. If we would have unifoimity, we must
adopt Webster, for he cannot be displaced;
but others may be.”
