There is nothing of this kind now ;
we have not seen a drunken man in our
streets since the advent of the new law ;

have begun a reform. We have seen
him in the streets several times lat:-ly,
and have not heard him utter an oath.
The law appears to be strictly obeycd
——unwillingly by sotne—still it is obeyed
‘No doubt. not cvery man will in time
be perfectly satisfied with the effects of
the law. Perhaps a few persons will
stiffer temporary inconvenience from
liaving this branch of their business out
off; but there will be more money ap-
plied to the purchase of the necessaries
of life, and more time devoted to carn-
iug money, so that thc prohibitory law
will be, in tlic end, lit-iieficial.

N. Y. Temperance Convention.
Saratoga seems to be distinguislied
this week for Conventions. The Anti-
Nebraska Convention met on Vt’:-dnesdii y
the Mass Anti-Nebraska Convention
on Thursday, and, in the afternoon of the
same day, a Temperance Mass Conven-
tion wus held, Hiram Barney presiding.
The object of the last was a pledge to
elect an Assembly this fall that would
again pass the Maine Law, and to vote
for no Governor that would veto it.-
The Convention is to meet again on the
26th of September at Auburn, the salm-
time and place as the Anti-Nebraska
Convention, to make out a ticket of State
Officers from such candidates as may
then have been offered.
