traitor to Frredom. it is apconslolat-ion to know
that tho citizens of this" Comindhwealth have
at least. one man who has the heart and the
ability thus ably to defend the cause of Right,

There is to be a grand Maine‘ Law Rally at
the Town House on Wednesday "evening. The
clergymen of the several churches we learn
have signified their approval of the gathering‘

wrecked on her entrance to San Francisco har-
bor. The North Star brings no specie or freight-
’l‘he telegraph brings us the news from Dc-
, ti-oil on Saturday last, that the Supreme Court
_i has finally decided that the .-‘llaine Liquor Law
is constitutional, and the decision of the Wayne
County Court isrevcrsed.
A serious accident on the Baltimore and Sus-
quehanna Railroad occurred last week. On
going around a very short curve lh‘l‘ce passen-
ger cars were upset and precipitated down an
embankmentsome 30 feet ; about 50 of the pos-
sengers were more or less injurcd. The cars
made three entire revolutions, and many of the
passengers were ,seriously burned by the lire
from the stoves.
The news by the late arrivals from Europe
is highly important. The Czar has rejected the
offers of reconciliation, made by Louis Napo-
leon. Two regiments of troops, besides the
Queen’s Guards, had embarked from Liverpool
and Southampton, in two of the Cunard steam-
ers for the seat of war. The. English Coast
Gunrd and the retired pensioners have been
drafted into service. Lord John Russel mode
‘ speech in Parliament in which he stated that
treachery and intrigue had characterized the
Czar’s correspondence with Her Majc.sty’s Gov-
ernment, and had finally ended in absolute false-
hood. The speech was made defending the
English Government from the charge of imbe-
cility, and created great excitemcnt.

"It does not, probably, occur to the
American families who are visiting Eu-
rope ‘in "great numbers, and remaining
there, frequently, for a year or more, that

try are aliens, and when they return
home, will return under all the disabili-
ties of aliens. Yet this is undisputably
the case; for it is not worth while to con-
sider the only exception to this rule that
exists under the laws of the United States
viz., the case of a child so born, whose
parents were citizens of le United
States, on or before the 14th of April,
1802." ,

The Nebraska Bill.-— A correspondent
in Vllasllington, under date of March 4th
says, in Marion to this measure :
“ Everyman I have seen regrets’ the
introduction of this bill. The Indian
delegation met yesterday, and will oppose
it ‘unanimously. Gen. Cass says there
was not a man in the Sellale in 1850,
who dreamed that the Compromise of
1820 was repealed by the Compromise of
1850. Yet. Gen. Cass may be compelled
to vote for it by his Nicholson letter.-
The opposition to the bill is gaining
ground daily now, agaxaiizst the whole 2'71-
fluence of the administration.

We fear, however, that if their press
should get a taste of our good whiggery
it would never let Democracy. go through
it again; as a man who has eaten sach-
el pears refuses ever after to swallow

California on the Clipper ship Invincible,
Capt. Johnson, and was on the return
voyage when he fell from the hatchway
upon some hides. It was not at first
thought that he was seriously injured and
on the third night after the fall. he went
to bed in some pain, but not in a situation
considered dnngerolls. He fell asleep
and never awoke, His body was care-
fully preserved in pulverized charcoal,
and his funeral will take place at Spring
Grove Cemetery to-morrow (saturday)
forenoon. This boy bore an excellent
character, and was beloved by all who
knew him. His untimely death isa most
grievous affliction to Mr. Kellogg’s fami-
ly.- Times.
