THIS place is situate in the village of S1‘.'l)l-

road, 30-} miles from New York City. Its vi-
cinity to the Sound ensures a fresh and healthy
atmosphere, and affords every facility for Salt-
water Bathing, Sailing, Fishing, &c. The house
is shielded in front by beautiful shade trees,
while the grounds contain about a hundred
fruit-trees, aswell as an excellent and exten-
sive assortment of the smaller fruits, shrubbery,
flowers, the. The finish of the whole house is
unexceptionable, combining advantages rarely
found in a country house. Every part having
been constructed with the utmost care by the
of perfection -has been attained ; extending not
only to the general ‘Ian, but even to the minu-
test details. The w ole house is thoroughly
warmed by a large furnace, while the rooms
have grates of their own. _
" Excellent water is obtained from a _well in
the kitchen, and there is also a reservoir above
the carriage-house, supplied by means of a
pump, with horse-power adapted, with good
water, which is carried through the house with
the usual conveniencies, hot and. cold Bath,
Water-Closet, &c., and soft water is abundant-
ly supplied from two cisterns. The house is
fin nished with Bells, Speaking '_1‘ubes,&c.
The Cellar is ample, extending under the
whole of the main building, and IS floored
throughout with Cement.
Not only comfort, but elegance and neatness
have been everywhere attended to, the front
windows being of plate glass, the rooms all
neatly papcred or painted, grates and wood-
work in complete order. In short, this house
furnishes every gratification for both taste and
comfort, without presenting that most odious
of anomalies, 3. City House in the Country.
The lace lies but a few rods from the Epis-
copal hurch, and the Village contains church-
es of all the principal denominations. Several
Schools are likewise located in and about the
Village, as well as a Post Office, good Markets
and Stores, and several able Physicians. Ap-

It was introduced about two- years ago in a
much superior manner, with all the modern
improvements of a very learned Agricultural
Chemist, adapting it for our soil, which has
improved the fertilizing efiects equal to guano.
