What a Poor Church can do.
At an annual discourse preached by the Rev
Mr. Austin, at the South Norwalk Congrega-
tional church on Sunday last, the following
items showing the contributions for the past
year, were given among many other interesting
matters connected with the growth and pros-
perity of the Church.

State Agricultural Society.
This body meets at the City Hall, Hartford,
on Wednesday of this week, to consult upon the
best meansof advancing the interests of agri-
culture in the State. All Farmers are invited
to attend.
Maine Law State Nominations.
At the Maine Law State Convention at Hart-
ford on Wednesday last, Hon. Charles Chapman,
Whig, of Hartford, was nominated for Govern-
_or, and Col. Lester, Demo. of New London
County-. for Lieut. Governor ; Edward S. Mose-
ly, of Hampton, for Secretary ; Thomas Clark:
of Coventry, for Treasurer; Rollin L. Beecher.
of Winchester for Comptroller. Mr. Chapman,
we understand, holds the matter under advise-
inent.

Savings’ Society.
It will be seen by advertisement that the
above society has declared a semi-annual divi-
dend at the rate of six per cent per annum, in-
stead office, as is the usual rate of Savings
Bank interest. Figures cannot lie, and this
dividend with the one recently declared by the
Fairfield Co. Bank, show that our’ Bank affairs
and the interests of the Savings Society are
in the hands of most judicious, honest and

tree of this climate possessed valuable medicinal proper-

a decoction of the leaves or bark of this tree has ever
