Ono Day’: Reliéctioin of it Gossip!
I was always bent on mischief‘. I enjoy it.
I god about to promote dissensiou, and I usually
succeed in kicking up a row. I hint strange
things about my‘_‘neighbors, pretend to disbe-
lieve the slanders import, and enjoin secrecy
to my audiences, pretending to hope that the
Story is all untrue.‘ I have a precious regard
to the people, and so caution them that they
maywatch the movements of my Victim. I
have a choice few in whom I can repose my
mischeivous secrets, and they believe every
word I say. Besides, I have no business of my
own to attendto, and of course, I must see to
the morals ofthe neighborhood. This system
I am bringing to perfection. I have a large
share pf kindness in my heart, and I keep it
there. Hypocrisy agrees with my nature bet-
ter than honesty. I am deemed very religious,
even by my husband, and he is totally unac-
qnalnted with my peculiar propensities. But,
I am a marvel in the world,-I have impudenec
of the winning sort ; a queer combination of
boldness, apparent sincerity, and full control
over my nature, yet ever desirous of making
out that people are vicious. I do not relish
vice, but if errors in life occur, I enter upon the
retail tradegwith pious horror, and _ g_hastly_
countenance, I can always produce imp;-_egg_ions,
that will be remembered. Our world needs re-
forming, and I am zealous to aid in the work, I
h'|V_e an enchanting" ‘way in worming myself
into the circle of tale-bearers, and sit as prin-
ceas.-gmong them. I comment upon the young
men, privately suspect the girls, and by innu-
endos and nothings, often-times make out a
good days work, of what, by others would be.

Thus_I1am reputed a genius, and-enter eve-
ry. circle, even without an invitation, sit in the
chiaf seat, and monopolize all the gossip. My
private views "are expressed without reserve,

widely difierent. I have some of the tyrant. in
me, but I inherit it lawfully; for my Mother had

I have some of the characteristics of Man. Blush-

tongue to tell of failings, mistakes, vices, and
indnlgencies, and thus I ruin my Victim. I do
a wholesale and retail business in this line, and
gossip peddlars with an ever varying
stock of merchantablc, trash. The truth is, I
have no heart to engage in common pursuits;
I nev‘¢r~“_had—-I choose to gad about, get the
news, ifiany there be, and if there be none, I
have a rare knack in the manufacturing line,
and n‘o.Lwomau"in‘-our place can one half equal
me. I have broken up four matches in a week,
caught a‘ boy and girl walking by moonlight,
got three Church members in dudgeon, and
pretty much ruined three respectable young
Ladies, and two young Men.
Indiscretions are the town-talk, and no one
knows where all these things started from. I
love to tell of my prowess, I enjoy it, I glory in
it, I should make a perfect nxistress in a School
