ed Barber, under the City Hotel, is a
blood relation of Faustiii, the present
Euiperor of Hayti, have been the sub-
ject of conversatioii for some days in this
city. An advertisciuent, it appears, was
published in the Nciu Yorlir Iferalrl, two
or three weeks since, over the signature
of M. Maillefort, a Frcucli gentleiiiaii in

Francis, a barber, who formerly resided
in New Orleans and traveled throngli
the southern States with it Mr Ranlr;
iiitimating that informiition of an impor-
tant nature would be coiumuiiicated to
him on his whereabouts lieiiig made

Several gentlemen in New York, ac-
quainted with Fraiicis, imuicdiiitcly wrote
M. Maillefort, inforining him that the
person lie was seeking for lived in Bridge-
port. Other gentleincn,acquainted with
persons of that name, also wrote him
from various quarters. 'l‘lic attention of
the Bridgeport Francis liaviiig been cal-
led to the advertiscinent, he also wrote
and gave such evidences as nearly con-
vinced the gentleman that he inust be
the person he was in quest of and an an-
swer was returned reqiu.-stiiig an inter-
view iii New York. Francis complied
with the request; the result of whicli
was the satisfactory establishment of his
identity, and a full dcvelopeincnt to him
’of the fact that he was a near relative of
the ruling Emperor of Ilayti. A pro-
posal was then made to take him and his
family to Hayti, accompaiiied with an of-
fer to furnish him with it fine outfit and
the most ample means for his convenience
and comfort, together with an appoint-
ment to a high and lucrative office, near
the person of the Emperor, on his arrival
in that country. But Francis was not
prepared to accept these dazzling and
enticing otfersand therefore declined them
It is his present intention, however, to
make a trip to Hayti, on his owiiaccotiiit
in the fall, and then decide wlictlier to
locate there or not. Should the final re-
sult be his removal to that Island and his
elevation to a place of honor and distinc-
tion in the Government, for which
he is no doubt as well qualified as many
or most of those now there, it would be
a somewhat extraordinary verification of
the old, that “truth is stranger than fic-

I could hardly take my eyes from that
poor man, from the time I first saw him
until his fate was decided, There were
