Bank stocks, money at interest, &c. Most of
the banks in Connecticut have for the last 13,60

farms had not been three per cent of their

tion whether the Legislature consulted their

Col. Howard arrived at \Vashington from
Texas last Saturday iiightbringiiig news that
_ fifteen hundred volunteers had otfercd their
~ services to the Govei-uiiieiit to marcli against
New Mexico. The Governor had accepted
them, but they will not march at present. The
Governor awaits an answer from the Federal
Government at \Vasliingtoii and the decision
of the called session of the Texas Legislature.
The vacancies in the Department of the Iii-
tcrior were still unfilled on Satuday.

bridge over a small tributary oftlie Delaware,

stream and strcwiug the frei,<zlit. in all directions.
Sixteen out of seventeen cars composing llio
train, fell through, and were siiiaslied to pieces.
Five persons were killed.
The stock on board consisted of soino .500
sheep. over 100 head of cattle, and 200 hog.-,
all of which were lost.
Of the men killed, three were hands belong-
ing to the road; the other two were drovers.
The engineer and lireuian escaped with some
slight SCli).(:l)eS. The engine having run oil
-the track, rested upon the abutmeiit of the
-bridge, and thus gave time for these men to
escape. \Ve believe the Conductor also escap-
ed without. injury.
The drovers and hands in the roar cars were
saved by jumping oil‘ as the train went‘. down,
and so escaped with little injury.
The loss by this accident must necessarily
he severe. beside the destruction oflifc. \vhich

ferry boat “ Ontatuslca” came into collision
with the sloop “Lyman Dcriisori,” of New
Haven. At the time of the collision, a hand
on board the sloop, narncd John Hill, who
was at the top mast, was seriously injured by
‘the breaking of the mast, which precipitated
him to the (leek of the ferry boat, His
body was discovered to be badly bruised,
-his head and face cut, and several of his
teeth broken. There were four persons in
