erations. It is said to arm the patient with an
appearance of passive endurance while ftdestioys
consciousness of pain and obliterates the fear of
it. ‘We have been furnished with ll pamphlet
in which are given numerous instances of am-
putation while under this influence. without the
slightest pi-.iii—such as the removal of a tumor
from a woman’s arm,auiputation of a limb of a girl
20 years of age, above the knee, and the removal
of tllebreast of 11 woman. VVe had looked upon
this as another of the humbugs ofthe day, but
‘Dr. -Hill, who has ‘secured the right of using and
vending the invention for this county, assures us
that it is what it preteiids to be, as he is able to
iiflirm from his experience in extracting teeth
after its administration. He is ready to demon.

tions may be perfoiwncd without pain. Drs.
VVarron, Hayward and Biglow of Boston; men
who stand preeminent in the profession of Med-
icine and Surgery have pronounced itone of the
greatest; discoveries ever ,made. Dr. Morton
has used it in several hundred cases of Dentistry
with complete success ; and also in the perfbrm-
ance of several capital operations in the Massa-
chusetts Hospitflb .
The Hon. Edward Everett L. L. D. P1-est.
of Harvard University, at the opening of the
New Medical‘College of Boston, Nov. 6th 1846
pronounced the highest eulogy upon it. See
also the report from Dr. Hervey J. Bigelow and
Dr. \Vai-ren, in the late members of the Boston
Medical and Surgical Journal.
The undersigned having purclmsed the ex-
clusive right for the county of Fairfield, of Dr.
Morton, (who has taken out letters patent for
this invention) is now prepared to administer the
same, in all cases where it may be required.
He has also taken the agency for the State of
Conn. and is, prepared and authorized to sell
rights to Dentists and Surgeons throughout. the
