for an appropriation to enable him to carry into

personal matters and affections, to which all are
more orless liable “in the season of the year,"
haveproduced avery unpropifious, and unpro-

mention this, that our readers may not only be-
come acquainted with the fact of deliiiqiioiicy,
but to seine extent, understand the reasons
therefor.

week, ‘and the. crop. we conclude, by the close
of the week was pretty much housed. The
weather was fine, thg yield heavy, and the whole
secured in perfect order. The only draw back
upon this crop, so far as we have heard, is, that
in some cases it became so rank and luxuriant,
as to be unable to sustain itself under the rains
and winds which were so frequent during the
month of July.

as well as was expected. In some cases the
straw is large, but the heads are disproportion-
ately small. In others, where this disproportion
is not observable, and a fair yield was promised.

The French Spoliation Bill which has passed
both Houses of Congress, provides for the pay-
ment of a. sum not exceeding five millions of
dollars, to such citizens of the United States, or
to their legal represeiitatives, as had valid claims
to indemnity upon the French government,
arising out of illegal captures, detentions, for-
cible seizures, illegal czindemnations and confis-
cations, cominited prior to the 31st of July 1801,
and which were not stipulated for and embraced
in the treaties of1803, 1819 and 1831-

delphia with a banner having inscribed on
it “Polk, Dallas, and the tariff of 18-1-2,”

came to the door and made a speech to
them, in which he said, “if you elect us,
boys, the tariffof 18453 is safe; you need
not fear for it. " We have ilie information
from one who was in the procession and
heard the speech. No wonder that the
mechanics of Phifadelpliia are indignant at
