dollar on each share of the Capital Stock of said
Company, payable on the 1st day of.lune, 1844;
and whereas the said directors of said- company
did. also, at a legal meeting holden at said Nor-
walk, on the 7th day of February, 1845, lay an
installment of one dollar and sixty-two and one half
cents on each share of the capital stock of said
company, payable on the 1st day of March 1845;
and whereas four hundred shares of the stock
of said company are owned by, and standing in
the name of Retire F. Crocker, Esq. of the
city of New York, and whereas the said Retire
F.‘ Cracker, has bedn duly notified of the laying
of said installments, and has neglected to pay

aforesaid, for more than sixty days after
said installments have been due, and after being

SEC. 3. All persons except ceniinissioned or
warrant officers and meinbor.-i of uniform compa-
nies duly oigaiiized, or who may hereafter be
chosen or appointed may annuall_v commute for
inilitar_v duty by paying to the collector of state
taxes of the town in which he resides, the sum
of one dollar, between the first day of June and
the first day of September in each year. Such
collector shall give duplicate receipts tliei-efoi',
and such receipts or his return tliereof, shall be

company, who shall be in full uniform at the
time such list is made, suited to the corps to ‘
which he may belong, certified under his oath to
be true in all respects? which list shall be filed
in the adjutant general’s office. '
SEC. ll. Any commanding officer who shall
refuse or neglect to make the returns required in
the preceding section, shall be liable to a penal-
ty not exceeding twenty-five dollars; to bere-
covered and paid into the treasury, as in the
manner provided for other fines in the section
of this act. .
SEC. 12. All t.he commissioned and non-com-
missioncd officers, musicians and privates who
shall be thus returned to the adjutant general, as
aforesaid, and who shall comply with the provis-
ions of this act in all respects, shall severally
constitute members of the uniform companies
composing each regiment. And the officers of
such companiesiholding commissions at the time
of the passage of this act, shall not be discharg-
ed, as is rovided in the eigth section of this act.

year, between the fifteenth day of August and"

days, by battalion regiment or brigade, as the'

ing, discipline, inspection and review; and all
other company and regimental parades heretofore
required by law are hereby abolished. '
SEC. 26. The commanding officer of each bri-
gade shall order the troops under his command '

at 10 o’clock in the forenoon of that day, and shall
not leave without permission until the close of
the parade on the third day thereof.

Src. 23. All orders for enoampinent, inspec-
tion and review shall be published at least twen-

notify the soldiers and officers of their several
coininands to appear as specified in said brigade

shall forfeit his annual pay, and also forfeit. and

neglect; and the certificate of the coininanding
officer of only compan_v shall be received as com-
pctent evidence of such neglect or refusal to do
duty as above '['l‘0\’lLlt3(l, or any other duty re-
quired by this act.
Size. 30. The conimandiiigoflir:e1' of every com-
pany in this state shall, after each and every pa-
radc required by law, make out alphabetical lists
of the names of the persons who shall liave ap-
peztred armed, uniforme-;l and equipped according
to law, and performed duty in his coinpany on
each day of said p:~.i-ades, and shall deliver the
same (certified under his oath to be correct and
true in all respects) to the commaiidr,-r of the re-
giment to which such company shall belong.
Sec. 31. The conimanding officer of each regi-
ment to whom the return in the preceding sec-
tion is made, shall on or before the fiftccntli day
of Novenilicr, annually, make outa complete list
of all the persons in his regiment, who appear
from said rolls to he entitled to be paid for mili-
tin service, and shall, after the per tliem shall be
fixed by the adjutaut general and after the first
day of Jaiiuury, annually, draw his warrant on the
treasurc-r of his county, directing him to pay the
amount due to the persons named in said list;
and the coiniuanding officer of each regiment
shall return to the adjutant general on or before
the first day of Deceinber, annually, the lists of

ascertain from the returns so made to him, the

Size. 232. Any officer who shall neglect to make
the returns required in the preceding sections,
shall be liable t.o a penalty not exceeding one
hundred dollars; to be recovered and paid into
the treasury of this state.
Size. 33. All ctiiiiinaiidiiig officers of brigades
and regiments shall annually, on and after the
fifteenth (lay of i\'ovember, traifsinit to the adju-
tant general a correct roster or list of the iiaiiies
ot' the persons in their staffs respcctivel_v, who
shall be in complete and f'ull uniform, and of the
number of days each shall have done dut._v in full
uniform required by law, certified to under his
oath that the same is true and correct In all re-
spects; and the adjutant general shall present
the same to the commander in chief, who shall
draw his warrant on the treasurer, directing him
to pay the amount due the persons named in said
rosters or lists, after the adjutaet general shall
have fixed the per dicm allot 'ance each shall be
entitled to receive.
Size. 31. Any such commanping officer who
shall refuse or neglect to make a correct return
as required in the preceding section, shall be lia-
ble to a penalty not exceeding fifty dollars; to be
recovered and appropriated as in the manner pro-
vided for other lines in the section ofthis act.
Sec. 35. The cominamlant of every company
sh:-.ll cause his non-commissioned officers to warn
personally, or by leaving at their usual place of
abode, a notice, all or any part of his company to
any parade; and if such notice be given three
days before any parade, it shall be deemed suffi-
cient notice.
SEC. 30. There shall be paid for services ren-
dered, annually. as directed by this act, not to
exceed the sums as follows; to every commi.-isir.m-
ed [and] non-commissioned officer, musician and
private, as specified in this act, while actually
engaged in full uniform, on parade and duty, viz:
1st. To all non-coinmissioned officers, musi-
cians and privates of any uniform Corps organized

onel, two dollars and fifty cents each.
5th. To all comm-.incling officers of regiments,
three dollars each, for every day while on any pa-
rade; and in addition, one dollar and twenty-five
cents for each day -actually employed in hearing
and deciding appeals for the remission or mitiga-
tion of pcnalties—not exceeding ten days in any
one year.
40. The ciipt ain general shall appoint.

41. There shall be allowed to each uni-‘
form company at present existing or liereafte1"
formed under the provisions of this act, fifty dol-'
_iars per amaum, as rentfor a suitable ariuory in
which to preserve their arms and military
equipments of the state. S u':h armory shall be"
undcr the control and charge of the eommanding
trict it shall be located; and such commanding"
officer shall cause to be deposited therein all
arms and equipments received from time to time"
for the use of his regiment, subject to the order’
of his superior oflicer. The quarter master geifi
oral of this State shall furnish, subject to the or.
ders of the commander in chief, all necessary
arms mid equiptments (suited to the particular
company or corps belonging to each regiment)
required for camp and field duty; the some to’
be furnished at the expense of the State. The‘
commanding officer of each company shall be re-
sponsible for the safe keeping and return of all
arms and equipinents committed to his charge,‘
and shall execute such bonds as the qua_rter-mas-
ter general shall require‘frmi‘itini‘e' to time; and
no company shall be so fu_rni‘shed until bonds for;
the safe keeping and returns ofall arms, &c. shall
be made out and approved of by the quarter-mas-'
for general, and until a suitable urm'oi-y or plzicef
ofdcposit shall be selected. The‘ éollllllfllldlng
officer of each company shall appoint a suitublef
person to take charge of the armory and all

State therein deposited, and to discharge‘ all’
such duties connected therewith as shall be’
from time to time prescribed by the quarter"
master general.’ Such persons so appointed
shall receive a compensation not to exceed one
dollar per day for the time actually employed in’
cleansing guns, mid other duties indispensably
necessary for the safe keeping and preservation‘
ofsucli prnpertzy ofthe State as shall be coi'ni1iit-
ted to his charge. His cliarges and accounts,
shall be audited by the commanding officer of
the regiment in whose district he shall reside.
The quarter-master general.shall from to time
make sucli orders rules and regulations as he
may deem proper for the observaiicecf all of-
ficers liaving cliarge of niiy armory in which
arms of the people of this State shall be depos-
ited. Any person who shall wilfully injure such‘
arniory or its fixtures, or any gun, sword, pistol,
chic. or other property of the State therein de-'
posited, shall be deemed guilty of misdeineanot’.
Sec. 42. The quarter-inastor general may
from time to time require any officer to examine
any arinory provided as aforesaid, and report to’
himthe condition thereof and of the arms and
camp equipagc therein deposited. F
SEC. 43. A quarter-niaster general shall be’
appointed by the Senate, upon the nomination of
the captain general, who shall have the rank of
lieutenant and colonel, and shall have authority‘
to appoint, with the approbation of the" capfafri‘
general, one or more assistzints, for whose con-
duct he shall be responsible, and may remove
them at his pleasure. The duty of the quarter"
master general shall be to take care of all’ the"
public property committed to him and belonging
to his departinent, to execute all orders received’
from the captain general relative thereto, receive‘
such arms as the government of the United
States may from time to time transmit to this
State, and cause the same to be depositedin tho
Statc arsenal at Hartford, and distribute tlie't'Ii"
to the militia in such manner as the commander-
in-cliicf shall direct, to perform all ether servi-
ccs that may be required of him by law, to, ije-‘
port to the General Assembly on the t?')i1"d'day'

return of a complete inventory of all the articles
belonging to his department, specifying the place‘

count of all expenses or expr-.nditures of money
incurrred in his department for which noaccount"
shall have been previously rendered to the Gen-
eral Assoinbly. And he shall become bound to
the State Treasurer with sureties in a bond of
twenty thousand dollars, conditioned for a faith‘-'
ful discharge of the duties of his office.
SEC. 44. A coimnissary general shall be ap-
pointed by the Senate, upon the nomination, of
the Governor, who shall have the rank oflieuten-‘
ant. colonel, and shall have authority to‘ apppint;
with the approbation of the captain general, one”
or more assistants, for whose conduct he shall
be responsible, and may remove them at his
pleasure. It shall be the duty of the commissi-
aiy gcne_ral to procure supplies for the subsis-
tence of the troops and issue the same, to ex-
ecute all orders received from tliéica-ptain géii-‘
era], to perform all services that may, be requir‘-'
ed of him by law, and report to the Geiiércl As-
sembly, invariably, on the third day of its s"es‘s'ion,'

SEC. 37’. The Governor for the the time be-
