Prostrate in Connecticut!
The election in this place on Monday, went off
without much excitement, and in perfect good ordrzr.
'1‘lio vote shows a falling off from that of the Pit; 5:-
dential election ofnearly 100, yet the Whig ninj cri-
ty is nearly what it was at that time. The vv higs
have to congratulate themselves that their vote has
sriffei'etl less decrease than that of their oppo'rieiits. -, A
This may be attributed to the labors ainonlg us, of
certain starvlings of “the party”—ex-j'.tr’.ges, and
straglers who have divided the crust wbicli fell from
the ‘democratic’ table, with the Statrferd Donkey,
until migration becairie necessary to cxistance '—-
Tlic vote is 623. out of which we have 21 majority
-of187. _ The vote stood as follows :

These are the highest and lowest figures, except-

A split on 2d Represent-itivc was an unfortunate
feature of the transaction 1 of day. The result,
however, all, in their sober second thought, will, we
think, under the circiiinstances of the case, be satisfi-

The returns from the District and County indi-
cate the success or the wliig ticket in the State.-
Our majorities are beyond all expectation. Dr._
Mini) is again returned to" the Senate by a. majority
nf‘53’7, and Mr. lsaacr; goes out of the District
with 564. Such a majority we apprehend, will
be rivaled by few other districts in the State. Be-
sides this, we have 6 Representatives, with Green-
'\-vich to hear froni,1ud no choice in New Canadn.
News from the 10th .2 11th, is not, ofcourso as grat-
ifying. At this moment the returns of the votes for
Sheriff in the 10th, are not at hand, but we have no
reason to expect aid from that quarter. Baruuin is
wellsupported at home. VVe have, however, carri-
"ed our Senator by over 100 majority, and stand 7
'-to 3:i‘oco Representative.
The 11th we have lost on the State Ticket, but
Edwards, (wl-rig) is elected by 68, and Isaacs’ nia-
jority runs up to 109. That is well done. The
majority for Isaacs in the County, will be not far
from 700. But we cannot go into father details.
Several ofthc towns in this vicinity, deserve par-
ticular attention. Ofthese, Old Greenwich stands
out boldly. But where all have done so well, we
will not be iuvidious. Glory etiotigli for all!

Our Express from New Haven having been
‘unexpectedly detained, has just come in. We
are, however, amply compensated for the delay
by the gluriotts nature of the returns. They
‘are to the elT:ct that the state is all over whig!
We gather from a liastyiglance at the returns.
which are nearly complete, that 7 of the S
Sherifis are ours, together with the whole 4
members of Congress, a Whig senate—15 ofthe
21-21 large majority of the House, and a Gov-
ernor by a majority over till. of 1000. and over
Toucey, by more than 3000. This, however.
may be somewhat reduced by the scattering:
votes yet to come in.
This, surely. is an aclrievment, more signal
titan was anticipated.
