day says the depth of snow in this city, on an
average, we think, is not less than 20 ittclies.
The carriage way of several of the narrower
streets is impassible. on account of the accumu-
lation of snow, (thrown partly from the side-
walks.) thrcc. four and five feet in depth,termi-
mating in an abrupt bank on both sides. Prob-
ably 50.000 men and boys were engaged yes-
terdayimorning in cleaning the side walks. It
was decidedly a busy scene. All the Irishmen
and negroes who wanted jobs, got therri.

tion was addressed by Hon Stephen C. Philips

adjournment took place to the next day.

On the second. an address to the People oftlie
United States was adopted by an unanimous
vote. A series ofresrilutions were iu'ro-loced
in regard to the treatment of colored persons

tion of the Post Office bill. Several riinend-
ments were adopted and the bill ordered to

In the U. S. Senate on We-rlnesdtiv, the-

touching‘ the annexation of Texas was, at his
request, taken up proforma, to enable him
to off: 1‘ ti substitute.

Mr. Berrien of Gen, wished to have the
bill referred to the committee on Foreign
Affairs.

Mr. Rites. of Va. would be unwilling t't
refer this measure to the committee on For-
eign Afliiirs, if he supposed that it would
smother the measure. But this “NS not the

between the proposition and that which
came from the House. It was trite that‘
both contemplated the admission of Texas,
but tle new bill proposed to do it by the ex-
