their attention to the fact that a grand Mass Con-
vention is to come otfin the City nl'Briilgeport, mi
VVeduesday, the 9th of inst. October. The Hon.
Runes CHOATE. the eloquent Senator from Massa-
chusetts. has signified his intention‘ to be pre.-rent and
address the Convention. Other’ distinguislied
speakers are also expected, such as ltob’t \Vintlirup,
Clia's Httdson. Joseph L. \Vliite, Hiram Ketclmiii
Jabez VV. Huntington, VV. IV. Boardniau, Cha’:i
Chapman. J. B. Eldridge, &c. Further atiiiuiince-
merit of Speakers will be made as the arrangements
progress.
The energy with which this matter has been taken
hold of by our Bridgeport friends, leaves no room
to fear any half-way work about it. They are de-
termined to show thelocos, by contrast, what the
whigs cati do iii the way of gatherings. Let us, of
the l‘2th,respondto their noble effort. The 12th must‘.
and will be there iuiher strength. The hospitality
of our friends will be commensurate with the mag-
nificence of the work they have undertaken. Let
the farmer, mechanic, inercliaiit, the man who
sweats for his daily‘ bread. and depends upon the
prosperity of the country and success ofwholesoiiie
whig measures for a livelihood. all give their attend-
ance and swell the mighty throng.
Our friends at the west have given its positive
assurance that their plan is to take their carriages.
and to meet us here, witlt a band of initsic, at eight
o'clock. a. in. without any regard to water commu-
nication. Of course we must be ready to iiiove on
with them at that hour. The delegatioii from New
Canaan, it is expected, will be on the ground at that
time. The towns further north. \Vilton, Riilgefield
and Redding, with \Voston and \Vestport, or such of
them as will take \Vestpoi't in their route. will hold
themselves in readiness to fall into the procession at
that place. It is hoped that other towns will swell
ottr numbers as we pass along. Let tltere be no
stragglinrr. Shoulder to shoulder, as laborers in
the common cause. and‘ brethren of the same
political fainily_, let us trudge on together.
Appropriate banners and uiottos should be pre-
pared in season. Every town should have its own
by which it may be designated, to head its delcga_
tion.
Coming Elections.
Several important elections take place during the
present month. in which great interest will be felt.-
The first in order is that oflittle Delaware. It took
place on Tuesday the 1st. for Election In.-pectors.-
The election of Congressmen and ‘State Olliccrs
does not come on itntil November.

ALL HAIL! LOUISIANA!
The Special Election held on the _9th inst. in the
County ofAttakapas, Louisiana, fora State Senator
in place of Hon. Isaac E. Morse, (loco) elected to
Congress, has resulted in a whig victory by 76
majority.
This result gives us a Whig Senate in Louisiana
for the first time in years. Last winter 7 VVhig to
10 loco: now 9 whig to 8loco.
R,/mi.—-We have at length an abundance of rain
to refresh the earth, and supply our springs and
streams. A North-East Storm commenced on
Saturday last, and continued without intermis-
sion itntil Sunday night, in the course of which it
cleared away. The wind du_ring Sunday, blew it
gale, and the tide at noon was unusually high, over-
flowing the wharves, and compelling the owners of
property lying upon them, to bestir themselves, to
prevent its being swept away.
