and these pills to the public, I.tippeal- to their
intelligence, not to thE‘ll' prejudices. but lofllelr
common sense. My doctrine brings the science
of Medicine out of darkness and mystery. IMO
day-light--into the open day lightof the world ;
ind every man may judge for himselfof thetruth
of my theory, if the evidence I produce. is_fu?_l,
ample. sufIicient,then you ought to believe it; if
it is not, you are in duty bound, out of respect
to yourself, to reject it. Imposition, hunibug
and quzickery are no part of my system. _ Ihold
this truth self-evident, that_no man is entitled to
the nrime of man who will wantonly impose
upon his fellow creatures. _
Tlzrit Dr. Troop has made _an important dis-
covery in the science of medicine and the phys-
iology of the human system, of moreimportance
3.0 the well-being and health of the great human
family, than all that has heretofore been known,
czimiot be doubted by the most sceptical.
I shall now. groceed to strtte in what my theory
and important discovery consists. and I flatter
myselfthat lshall be able to make it clear that
this new doctrine is true, the theory based on
physiological principles. and in perfect accord-
ance with nature’s laws. Before, howcver, doing
this, I wish to explain one word which 1 shall
have occasion to make frequent use of viz:
Secretion. By secretion. 1 mean that part of
the animal economy which separates the fluids
of the body, as for example—the bile or grill is
it fluid, and is a. Secretion of the Liver.
Now the doctrine I hold,and am able to defend
« as the only true one, is this-—that alldiserises
have their origin in a. suppressed. imperfect, or
depraved secretion of‘ various organs, for exam-
plé—a person from exposure to cold, or any
other cause, hits the secretion of_the skin. 01‘
perspiration, which is the same th_ing.checked.
does it'nol’. produce fever pains in the head,
limbs. &c. Now if this natural secretion or
perspiration is restored, does it not give imme-
diate relief to the patient’! Every body answers
yes. Again, take for instance—-a case of Cho_l-
era. do we not find it total absence of bile in
what passes the bowels and in what is thrown
up? The moment the liver can be made to se-
crete bile and it passes into the stomach and bow-
els, the vomiting and purging ceases, and the
atient is safe. Take a case of Yellow Fever,
is not the black vomit adepraved secretion! and
unless that secretion is checked and changed, the
patient dies within a few» hours; but if the secre-
tion is changod to a. healthy. one, ti. recovery is
certain. '
What do we observe in Croup! Is there not
a formation of a membrane in the wind pipe,
produced by an unnatural secretion. which-
thrcatcnsthe little sufferer with instant death,
unless this secretionand formation be imme-
diately checked! Most certainly.
Take a case of fever, what do we observe?
do we not find the skin dry and hot, also the
palms of the hands and soles of the feet’! Most
certainly. The fever is not the cause of this
heat, but because the secretion of the skin is

and that is the reason of so much thirst and
dryness of the mouth. In fever. there is often
constip.ttion, and the passages are black,green,
or otherwise ; does this not show that the secre-
tion of the liver and other organs is imperfect
or deficent. My pills wil remove the heat of
the skin, by opening its secretion. They will
remove the thirst and dryness of the month by
restoring the secretion of the glands, and in the
same manner all tilt.‘ other functions.
We think the cases we have taken to illustrate
this doctrine, fully prove it true. We might go
on with every disease in the whole catalogue of
human infirmities, and the proofofour doctrine
would be equally clear, but we think it unneces-
sary to do so,especially as our limits are con-
fined to a. small wrapper round the box.
Dr. Troop being convinced by the most pro-
found research, study arid experience, that all
diseases have their origin in a suppressed, or
depraved secretion, the next thing was to dis-
cover a combination of remedial agents that
would act upon any one, ornll of the secretions,
and restore the various organs to their lieali.hy
action.
Believing the doctrine or theory illustrated
above, to be the doctrine of nature, and in the
most perfect harmony with nature's laws, Ifelt

I confident that the Great Giver of all good had
created the necessary remedies, but whether I
was to be the humble instrument to discover
them, I knew not. I was resolved to make use
of the reason God had given me to accomplish
‘ _ this great object. That I have succeeded, there
is not the least doubt. and the Pills I now offer
to-this intelligenvcoinmunity, possess intrinsic
merit. and have the strongest claims upon your
confidence, because they are founded upon true
principles and 9. correct lmowledge of the cause
