patient is safe. Take a case of Yellow Fever,

unless that secretion is checked and changed,thc
patient dies within a few hours; but if the secre-
tion is changcd to a healthy one, a recovery is
certain.
What do we observe in Croup? Is there not
-a formation of a membrane in the wind pipe,
produced by an unnatural secretion. which
threatens the little sufferer with instant death,
unless this secretion and formation be ii1itne-

Take a case of fever, what do we observe?
do we not find the skin dry and hot, also the
palms of the hands and sofes of the feet‘! Most
certainly.‘ The fever is not the cause of this
heat, but because the secretion of the skin is
cliecked,the fever is the consequence. Nobody
ever knew the skin to be hot when it was moist,
or when the secretion was perfect. In fever,wc
find theimouth and tongue dry, and great thirst.
What is the cause of this’! According to my
theory, I say that the small glands in the mouth
and throatdo not perform thcirnatural secretion,
and that is the reason of so much thirst and
dryness of‘ the mouili. In fever, there is often
