That Dr. Troop has made an important dis-
covery iii the science of medicine and the phys-
iology of the human system, of moreimportance
to the wellbeing and health of the great. human
family,than all that has heretofore been known,
cannot be doubted by the most sceptical.
I shall now proceed to statein whatmytlieory
and important discovery consists. and I flatter
myself't.hat I shall be able to make it clear that.
this new doctrine is true, the theory oased on
physiological principles. and in perfect accord-
ance with nature’s laws. Before, l)0W.t_‘.VOl',(.lOll')g
this, 1 wish to vxplain one word which I shall
have occasion to make frequent use of viz:
Secretion. By secretion, 1 mean that part of
the animal economy which separates the fluids
of the body, as for example—-the bllt‘:’OI' gall IS
a fluid, and is a Secretion of the Liver.
Now the doctrine I holtl,and am able to defend
as the only iruecne, is this—that all diseases
have their origin in a supprvssed. imperfect, or
de;:ra.ved secretion of various organs, for exam-
ple——a person from exposure to cold, or any
other cause, li:is_the secretion ofthe skin, or
perspiration. which is the same thiug,cliecked.
does it not produce fever pains in the head,
limbs, the. Now if this natural secretion or
Imposition, humbug -
perspirationis restored, does it not give imme-
diate 1-to-lief to ilie patient’! Every body answers
yes. Again, take for instance~—a case of Chol-
era, do we not find a total absence of bile in
what passes the bowels and in what is thrown
- up’! The moment the liver can be made to se-
crete bile and it passrs into the stomach and bow-
cls, the vomiting and purging ceases, and the
patient is safe. Take a case of Yellow Fever,
is not tlie,black vomit arlepraved secretion? and
unless that secretion is checked and changed,the
patient dies within a few hours; but iftl1esecre-
tion is changed to a healthy one, a recovery is
certain.’
\Vliat do we observe in Croup? Is there not
a formation of a. membrane in the wind pipe,
produced by an unnatural secretion. which
tlircatcns the little sufferer with instant death,
unless this secretion and formation be imme-
diately checkedl Most: certainly. '
Take a case of fever, what do we observe’!
do we not find the skin dry and hot, also the
palms of the bands and so‘es of.the feet’! Most
certainly. The fever is not the cause of this
heat, but because the secretion of the skin is
chccked,tlie fever is the consequence. Nobody
ever knew the skin to be hot when it was moist,
or when the secretion was perfect. In fever,we
find the mouth and tongue dry, and great thirst.
VVhat is the cause of this’! According to_ my
theory, I say that tliesinall glands in the mouth
and throatdo not perform theirnatural secretion,
and that is the reason of so much thirst and
dryness of the month. In fever. there is often
constipation, and the passages are black,green,
or otherwise; does this not show that the secre-
tion of the liver and other organs is imperfect
or deficent. My pills wil. remove the heat of
the skin, by opening its secretion. “They will
remove the thirst and dryness of the month by
restoring the secretion of the glands, and in the
same manner all the other functions.
VVe think the cases we have taken to illustrate
this doctrine, fully prove it true. ,We might go
on with every disease in the whole catalogue of
human infirmitics, and the proofofour doctrine
would be equally clear. but we think it unneces-
sary to do so,cspecially as our limits are con-
fined to a small wrapper round the box.
Dr. Troop being convinced by the most pro-
found research, study and experience, that all
diseases have their origin in a suppressed, or
depraved secretion, the next thing was to dis-
cover a combination of remedial agents that
would act upon any one, or all of the secretions,
and restore the various organs to their healthy
action.
Believing the doctrine or theory illustrated
above, to be the doctrine of nature, and in the
most perfect harmony with naturc’s laws,If'elt
confident that the Great Giver of all good had
created the necessary remedies, but whether I
was to be the humble instrtiment to discover
them, I knew not. I was resolved to make use
of the reason Godbad given me to accomplish
this great object. That I have succeeded, there
is not the least doubt. and the Pills I now offer
to this intelligent coinmunity, possess intrinsic
merit, and have the strongest claims upon your
confidence, because they are founded upon true
principles and a correct knowledge oftlie cause
of disease. '
