and quetckery are no part of my system. O I-told
this truth self-evident, that no man is entitled to
the name -of man who will wantonly impose
upon his fellow creatures.
Tnat Dr. Troop has made ‘an important dis-
covery in the science of medicine and the phys-
i-1109) of the human system. of moretmportance
1., mg welhbeing and health of the great human
family. than all that has heretofore been known,
cannot. be doubted by the most sceptical.
I shall now proceed t.o statein what my theory
nd impoi-taiit discovery consists. and I flatter
myselfthat i shall be able to make it clear that
this -new doctrine is true, the theory based on
physiological principles. and in perfect accord-
ance with nature’s laws. Before, howcvendoing
this, I wish to explain one word which 1 shall
have occasion to make frequent use of viz:
Secretion. By secretion, I mean that part of
.-the animal ecotiomy which separates the fluids
of the body, as for example-the bile or gall is
a fluid, and is a Secretion ofthe Liver.
Now the doctrine I hold,and am able to defend
‘as the only true one, is this—that all diseases
have their origin in a supprvssed. imperfect. or
depraved secretion of vaiious organs, for exam-
ple—a person from exposure to cold, or any
other cause, has the secretion of the skin. or
perspiration, which is the same thing.checked.
does it not produce fever pains in the head,
limbs. &.c. Now if this natural secretion or
perspiration is restored, tloes it not give imme-
diate relief to the p.ttient.’? Every body answers
yes. Again, take for instance—a case ofChol»
era, do we not find a total absence of bile in
what passes the bowels and in what is thrown
up’! The moment the liver can be made to se-
crete bile and it pass-"s into the stomach and bow-
els, the vomiting and purging ceases. and the
patientis safe. Take a case of Yellow Fever,
is not the black vomit atlepraved secretion? and
unless that secretion is checked and changed, the
patient dies within a few hours; but if the secre-
tion is changcd to a healthy one, a recovery is
certain.
What do we observe in Croup‘! Is there not
a formation of a membrane in the wind pipe,
produced by an unnatural secretion. which
threatens the little sufi'erer with instant death,
unless this secretion and formation be imme-
diately checked! Most certainly.
Take a case of fever, what do we observe?
do we not find the skin dry and hot, also the
palms of the hands and sofes of the feet’! Most
certainly. The fever is not the cause of this
heat, but because the secretion of the skin is
cliecked,the fever is the consequence. Nobody
ever knew the skin to be hot when it was moist,
or when the secretion was perfect. In fever,we
find the moul.h and tongue dry, and great thirst.
What is the cause of this? According to my
theory, I say that the small glands in the mouth
and throatdo not pcrfoim their natural secretion,
and that is the reason of so much thirst and
dryness of the month. In fever. there is often
constipation, and the passages are b|ack,green,
or otherwise ; does this not show that the secre-
-tion of the liver and other organs is imperfect
.or deficent. My pills wil. retnove the heat of
the skin, by opening its secretion. They will
remove the thirst and dryness of the moutlt by
restoring the secretion of the glands, and in the
same manner all the other functions.
We think the caseswe have taken to illus'rate
this doctrine, fully prove it true. VVe might go
on with every disease in the whole catalogue of
human infirmities, and the proofofour doctrine
would be equally clear. but we think it unneces-
s-iry to do so, cspccially as our limits are con-
finvd to a snitll wrapper routid the box.
Dr. 'l‘roop being convinced by the most pro-
found research, study and experience, that all
diseases have their origin in a suppressed, or
depraved secretion, the next thing was to dis
cov.-r a combination of remedial agents that
would act upon any one, or all of the secretions,

above, to be the doctrine of nature. andin the
most perfect harmony with naturc’s laws,Ifelt
confident that the Great Giver of all good had
created the-necessary remedies, but whether I
was to be the humble instrument to discover

of the reason God had given me to accomplish
this great object. That I have succeeded, there
is not the least doubt. and the Pills I now offer
