._ ON LOW SPIRITS.
LOW spirits is a certain state of the mind-accorra
panied by indigestion, wherein the greatest
evils tll‘e app reliendad upon the slightest grounds
and the worst consequences imagined. Ant-ientme-
dical writers supposed this disease to be confined to,
those prrticular regions of the abdomen, technically
called hypocondria, which are situated on the right
or left side of that cavity, whence comes the name
hypocondriasis.
SYMPTOMS.

in the stomach or bowels. actid ernctations, costive-
ness, spasmodic pains. gitlrliiiess,tlimness of sight,
palpitations. and often an utter inability of fixing
the attention upon any subject of importance, or en-
gaging in any thing that demands vigor or courage.

l.liouglitful,despouding, melancholy, and dejected,
accompanied with a total deraugemeruoftlie nerv
our: system. The mental feelings and peculiar trai =
of ideas that haunt the imagination and overwhelm
the judgment, exhibit an infinite diversity. Th

A sedentary life of any kind, especially severe
tudy protracted t o a late liourin the night, and rarely
relieved by social intercourse, or exercise, a dissolute
habit. great excess in eating and drinking, the im-
iiioderate use of mercury, violent purgatives. the
suppression of some habitual discharge, (as, the ob-
struction ofthe menses,)or long continued eruption;
relaxation or tlebility of one or more important or-
gans within the abdomen, is a frequent cause.
TREATMENT.
The principal objects of treatment are, to remove
indigestion, to strengthen the body, and to_enliven
the spirits, which m-i_v be promoted by exercise, our-
ly hours, regular meals, and pleasant conversation.
The bowels (if costive) being carefullv regulated by
the occasional use of mild aperient. We know no-
thing better calculated to olitain this end, than Dr.
Wm. Evans’ Apcriont Pills—heing mild and certain
in their operation. The bowels being once cleansed.

field, in the state ot Connecticut, and they new
offer for sale it few of said Machines, with the
right and privilege of usingthem in thetlilfcrenl
towns in said county.
This machine was recently invented by Mr.
Cons, of Milford, New Hampshire. It is com;
pact in its form, and simple in its construction.
The three machines being connected, it requires
only the room of one common macliine.__"_"'r_is
cunctaded by all who have used this ma?"'"f"5{ or
examined it,that it will saw more shir{‘,‘.’ g.‘"',"’.:lsp-
boards, &c. in the satire length of '.’.‘.iie, and
make a greater saving of Lumber than any other
machine now in use. It requires only a common
laborer to run the machine and keep it in order.
It can be set in any mill where power can be ob-
tained from water and steam, and requires but
little room. It is the cheapest and most profita-
ble machine before the public for sawing shingles,
clapboards, and lath, and any other sawing usu-
ally done by a circular saw. Where this mn-
vhiue has been used, tlieviowners have received a
’ <‘-bifit from sawing theirslabs into shingles,clap-
