Mr. VVright’s Sub-Treasury bill and Mr.
Benton‘s bill for the armed occupation of
Florida, have passed the ‘Senate. Mr. Crit-
.,¢gnden’s bill to pr,e,vent and punish the inter-
,fc;rc-.r1_ce of office-_l,1_olders in elections, has been
voted down by John M. Niles, Perry Smith,
and their fellow Loco-Focos in the Senate.

en prisoner by the provincials, and, -by way:

The Editor. of the Bridgeport Farmer is
outrageously indignant at the course of the
W'hig papers in publishing the speech of Mr.
VVisc upon the recent defalcations in the Sub-
Treasury Department. The horror-strick-
en editor turns up the whites of his eyes, like
a duck in a thunder-storm, anzl very piously
exclaims that ‘Vise is a ‘fvillainous assassin
and particcps in a cool-blooded murder,” &c.
referring to his participation in the duel in
which Cilley fell. Does the editor of the
Farmer know who were the other seconds in
that famous transaction?
not be ignorant that one Doctor Duncan loan-
ed his rifle to one ofthe parties, to be used on
that occasion, and attended upon theground
during the whole of that bloody fight, as the
second of the other.
This same Duncan also made a speech,
recently, upon the same subject of the defol-
cations of those precious ‘Loco-Focos, Swart—
wout and Price, and the Federal Mr. Whit-
tlesey, our Member of Congress, is sending
copies of that speech, under his fra_nk. into
the County. by the bushel. Not a Loco:Foco
corporal in the County has been omitted. All
havo ;?ep_ciVed the speech of Dr. Duncan, and
all are now busily engaged in giving it cir-
culation. And, we have not the least doubt,
that this conscientious editor, at the time of
penning that article, had in his possession a
copy of that same Duncan’s speech, franked
“T. T. Whittlesey. C.”

lumbian Band for the benefit of the poor.—

highly gratified, and we hope that those who
were deterred by the rain from attending,

the Band may be accomplished.
Wasting Powdcr.—Our Loco-Foco Mem-
bers of Congress, having violated the will of
their constituents in voting for the abomina-
,_ blc Sub-Treasury; in voting for the unjust
and clishoncst project of giving away the im-
mense estate ofthie whole family of States in
the Public Lands, to purchase yotcs for Mar-
tin Van Brrrep; and in resisting the resolu-
tion for investigating Loco-Foco Frauds and
Defalcations, now when the time for which
they were elected to the seats they so unwor-
thily fill is about to expire, are beginning to
devise the means to place themselves in a fa-
vorable position bcforc their constituents,
whom they havcthus deceived and defraud-
ed. And what Yankee would have guessed
that the project they wguld devise, would have
been fqr,ea,cl1 of them to make a spec,ch._—-
But so it is—-T_ou_ccy has made his speech,
Ingham his, and the four Dummies, Holt,
Haley, Phelps and ‘Whittlesey are making
their preparations to let off.
But all will not do. It will be a wasting
of their powder. No fine spe‘e,che_s they can
now make will palliate their political offen-
ces, or serve to direct attention from the po-
litical sins of which they have been guilty
their constituents have their _eyes upon them,
and are anxiously waiting for the Ides of
April, when judgement and sentence will be
passed upon such faithless public servants.
As to the Fairfield County Damrny, we have
a record of his rates, and when he shall be
again presented to the people for their suffra-
ges, will endeavor that his merits as a demo-
cratic candidate shall be thoroughly under-
stood.
Slcul/t-ing.--In times past, our Loco-Foco
friends have been accustomed to appear early
in the field. Those were times, however,
when the People were deluded and the Loco-
Foco cause prosperous.

gard ,to their conventions for making nomi-
tions until after _the meeting of the Whigs is
announced for the 6th of March. Then,
Mr. Samuel Raymond, issues his orders for a
meeting on the 7.r.c:z:t day after, namely, the 7th.
Vyhy is this? The ,coi,n,cide_t)_ce is not ac-
cidental. The delay was not accidental. It
has not happened that the I___.o,co meeting is ap-
pointed for the next day after the Convention
of the Whigs, without adesign. And what
is that? They hope to profit by a. di1:ision
of the IVhigs as to their candidates, and have
so shaped their course as to be prepared to
