CAUSES. .
A sedentary life of any kind, especially severe
study protracted to a late hour in the night, and rarely
relieved by social intercourse, or exercise, a dtssoluie
habit. great excess in eating and drinking, the iin-
moderate use of mercury, violent purgativt-s. the
suppression of some habitual discharge, (as, tlte ob-
struction of the menst-s,) or long continued eruption;
relaxation or debility of one or more important or-
gans within the abdomen, is a freqtteiit cause.
TREATMENT;
The principal objects of treatment -re, to retrieve
indigestion, to strengthen the body, and to enliven
