The stcambat Yazoo, from Mobile, for New
Orleans, via the river burst one of her boilers
on Monday morning the 6th inst. while off Bre-
ton Island. A passenger, named Kecler, who
was formerly 1st Engineer of the steamboat
Roanoke. was instantly killed. No other person

Connecticut State Pr2'son.—From the Report
of the Warden, we learn that, “there has been
in confinement during the year, two hundred
and sixty-four convicts. From this number fif-
ty-nirie have been discharged by expiration of
sentence, eight have been pardoned by the Gen-
eral Assembly, three discharged by order of
court, and four have died, leaving in prison this
day. one hundred and ninety, being seventeen
less than was in confinement at the commence-
merit of the year. Oftliose now in confinement
one hundred and forty one are white, and forty-
tiiiie are black, one hundred and seventy eight
males, and twelve females.
The number of blacks in confinement com-
pared with the whites is ten or twelve times
greater than is the proportion of the black to
the white population in the State.
The whole amount of earnings for the
year has been $20,544 04, and the whole amoui.t
of expenses for the support and govertiment of
the institutuion, including ordinary repairs and
it‘nprovt=.ments, has been $15,529 02, leaving it
nett gain or- profit of five thousand fifteen dol-
