Liberir1.-—Tlie folloivitig account of this Col-
ony is copied from Liberia papers, which have
been received at Philadelphia lately. It stretch-
es along three litnidred miles.of the coast, and
extends from ten to forty milesinto the interior,
and was settled in 1832.. It consists of nine
villages, comprising a population of 5000, all,
of course, coldretl persons-—-of which 3500 are
emigrants from this country, the remainder na-
tives of Africa, mostly youth, who have come
into the Colony. Upwards of $100,000 was
exported last year, in camwood, ivory, palm oil
and hides. Monrovia the largest town, employs
twelve or fifteen small coasting vessels, trtidi.:g
along several hundred miles of the coast. The
harbors of Monrovia, Bassa Cove. and Cape
less smite one had a speech to make, pro and
con.

Mr. Grundy has been eleetioneeriug. for the
last three days. to secure a \Vbig speech in op-
position to his bill for suppressing, the circulation
of notes of the United States Bank. But the
\Vliigs seem to think, that neither tlze bill nor
the speech made by the Hon. Senator from Teri-
nessee is entitled to an attack. and therefore are
disposed to let it sink by its own weight. A
most uiortifyitig death. Mr. Grundy said, yes-
terday. in despair—“ The VVhigs have more
cuuriirig than I suspected.” This bill, like
many other experiments of the adriiiuisration,
will prove an abortion.
The Senate this rrroruing took tip and passed
Mr. King's resolution. fixing the first week in
June. as the time for Congress to adjourn. The
House will not act upon it long before the first
week in June. No atljtiurnirietit will take place
until the middleof July. The sooner an ad-
journtnent is agreed upon, however, the better
for the nation, although private individuals will
be great sufferers by a hasty termination of the
session.
In the House, M r. Dromgoole offered an
amendment to Mr. llopkiiis's resolution for " di-
vorcing” the public printing from the tletvspaper
press. The amendment, aiiioug other things.
proposes an inquiry into the mode sud manner
by which Mr. Allen, publisher ofthe l\1adisou-
itin, obtained his election as printer to the
House. In short, whether there was any nego-
ciation. bargain or intrigue on that occasion ? I
hope it may be adopted.
Mr. \Vise, then moved that the committee on
Naval Affairs be instructed to inquire into the
causes of the detention anfailure of the Exploring
Expedition, and report to the House. This mo-
tion was under consideration, and Mr. Wise on
the floor. when the morning hour expired, and,
the orders ofthe day were called.
The House then took up the Cumberland
Road Bill—rejected it : reconsidered it, and then
discussed it. until past 4 o'clock. when without
ordering it to be engrossed. they adjourned.
