To Dr. Pangolus: Dear Sir—I wrote you
some time since for the Sawdust Journal. which
I hope you will send without delay. Public at-
tention is now strongly turned toward the impor-
tant subject of Eating. Dr. Lean has been let.‘-
turing in this place. antl produced quite an ex-
citenient. His proofs of the pernicous conse-
quences of eating meat. were perftectly convinc-

never drcampt of thcthing tefore. . conszt er-
ate man. af;er havingintlulged in e)ating ploultry
and boiled mutton, (slow poisons. wontcrs to

ougbtto have been deatl long ago. Indeed, it is
very clear that but for Dr. Lean. we should ne-
ver have known half our danger or misfortunes.
Animal food is now held to utter abomination
among us; pigs, pz-irtictilarly. have been obliged
to cut antl rim. The butt-liers have hung up
their cleavers and closed their stalls. p/‘vensaw
stages are out of demand, except those stuffed
with red baize and turnips. The reform is go-
ing on, although many of us are going off. but
this the doctor very clearly shows not to be ow-
ing totheir change of diet, but to the roast fowls
they ate last witer.
The young ladies at Mrs. Slop’s boarding
house (those who still survive) atlliere strictly to
the principles of Dr. Loan and his leariietl pre-
treptor Dr. Sawdust. They live ttpori rain wri-
ter and sea biscuit, somctiuies indulging a little
iii soup made of pebble stones boiled in clear
spring water. You never saw a more beautiful
and interesting sight than these young ladies;
they resemble tlclicnte cabbage plants growing
under the shady side of a barn. Their strength
is so uiiicli improved by theirtliet. that they
have no occasion for exercise. and never feel the
least desire to promenade. Indeed this would
besomewbat liazartlons, for one of them being
abroad out a wiritly day was sutltltrnly blown
against the side ofa newly paiiitetl house, where
she stuck till somebody carne to her relief.
Dr. Sawdust, the great prototype of the ad-
mirrible system of tliett-.tit:s, has left us and is
now lecturing the gootl_lblks at S.-ipvillc. The
good reform is going on there. Several people
have sewed tip their mouths, and they sny~the
sensation is deliglitful. Ollltffs hold b.-it'k and
think that knoc .ing their teeth out is tpiitta stifli-
