your paper, to raise tl. hue and cry against certain
ty. They feign to be distressed foreigners, ura-
able to speak Eiiglisli. They play dumb-show
with printed statements of disastrous accidents
by sea or land. They prowl about houses,
crouching and whining to excite pity, or sullen-
ly intrude atnongst females to profit from their
timidity. In short, by falsehood and irnpudcnce
they outwit the inexperienced and spunge the
cbaritablc._ These fellows belong, no doubt, to
it gang of loafers in New-York. They are ..of
the Gipsey species, an like them, bug or steal
as may be most convenient. In spite of Yankee
shrewdness these impostors are successful.-
Tbeir rapid increase shows it. The plunder ob-
tained is not the greatest loss to the public.
Theirimpositions are robbing us of confidence,
and benevolence. They will render us distrust-
ful and unfceling. Is not the violation of chari-
ty :1 gross outrage? It seems to me robbery of
the widow and orphan, and dashing the last com-
fort of “him that is ready to perish.”
\Vha.t is to be done‘! We cannot dog them,
for they are human——we cannot jail them, that
would support them in idleness--cannot put
them to work, for, strange to say, there is no
work-house. What then’! Starve them out!
Treat t.licm as plagues! Never admit them
within doors. Let the men destroy their print-
ed lies and clear them out quickly. Let the la-
dies turn their backs on them and slam the doors
in their faces! Don't parley with them, you
‘may pity their seeming lowlincss. Donjt stay
in sight of them, you may imagine their dark
looks threaten you. Neither pity nor-fear, but
shun tlicm,they are worse than cholera or small

tained, was niurdered by certain runaway ne-
grocs. 'I‘iiey have been apprehended and have
confessed the murder.
John Hicks was at Fort Kiiig a few clays since,
he says the friendly intentions of the Indians
still continue. No hostilities have been com-
mitted . _
General Jessup was at Jacksonville on Mon-
day inspecting that post. He goes immediately

Territory. Active preparations are every where
