powder mill at Southwick, Mass. are froui the

o’clock, two or three distinct and heavy
shocks were felt in this town, so severe as
to shake very sensibly some buildings. The
noise resembled very heavy distant thunder,
and for a time excited rmicli surprise. It
proved, however, to be an explosion of the
powder mills of Col. Satil Smith, of South-
jwick, about ten miles distant from town,
and consisting of three separate buildiii;_rs
situated within a. few rods of each other, all
"of which blew up in quick succession—ouc
taking fire from the other.
