Extract from the Report of the Comnrtssioners.
On the 1st ofApril next this institution will
be opened for the reception of patients. The
building which has beeti erected is capable of
acconiniodating about fifty patieiits,and a_pr0-
portionate number of attendants.‘ It_is situa-
ted on an eminence about one iuile from the
city of Hartford, and coinniarids a,‘ delightful
view of the valley of the Conirecticut and of
the surrounding couuntry. The _,_building is
a S8Cll|’€'-.,tIll(.l at the satire time a desirable place
of abode. The interior is so -arra.ngetl as to
furnish for each patient a coirvenieiit apart-
ment, aird to accoiniriodate the personal at-

than ordinary attention. 'I'li'e_liouse is wariri-
ed by furna'ces in the baseinent,so that during
the severest cold of winter the patients will en-
joy the benefit of a tiiild tetnperature, without
being exposetl to the dangers ofan open fire.

will be permitted to range for exercise and a-

faithful atiendant. The building is surrirtitI<.l-
ed by the grounds ofthe institution, a portion

will furnish einployineirt during the sirririner
months for such as are disposed to lab_our;
while the other portions will be appropriated
to walks for the patients, and to such purposes
as are judged most likely to promote the wel-
fare of the Retreat. A plrysician, well
known for his skill in the treatment of insani-
ty, and for his kindness totlre unfortunate sub-
jects ofthat fearful disease, has been clioseir
to superiiited the institution. A steward and
matron of good moral character, kind disposi-
tions, atid suitable attainments, have been cho-
sen to siiperinteiid the dotiiestic coircerns of
the itistitittioii ; and the same qU7lllIlCl\ll0U5
will be deemed necessary in the attendants to
whose care the patients are eiitrusted. _
The expense ofsupporting patients will be-
nroderate. It is, however, expected that those
whose circumstances require iriore than corn-
