In pursuance of previous ai.ianget'ncnts the in-
habitants of the town of Wilton, met at the house
of Zadoc Raymond, Esq. on the fourth inst. for the
purpose of commemorating the birth-day ol'A-
merican Independence. The day was ushered
in by the firing of cannon, and at half past ten-, a
large conc..m—,.e _of people being assembled, they
were formed in a procession, and escorted by a
military guard, attended with appropriate music,
to the Meeting}-louse; where the exercises of the
day were commenced with an introductory prayer
by the Rev. Levi Dikeman, and an appropriate
‘sermon by the Rev. Sylvzmus Haiglit, after which
an Oration was delivered by Mr. Eli};/tale: Whit-
Iock--tlic whole exercises interspersed with the
singing of patriotic songs at the intervals. Har-
mony and good order prevailed throughout the
day, amongst an assembly of iiearly two thousand
spectators. After the exercises in the house
were closed, the company i'etired to the green
. near the Meeting-House, where were read the
following toasts, attended by thedischarge of can-
non and small arms,‘ together with appropriate
airs by themusicians. The company then march-
ed back in"re'gular procession to Mr. Rayiiioiidis,
where they partook ofa sumptuous rcpast. The
whole was truly interestii-lg, and well calculated

in this city, has been coiivicted of passing or issu-
