a person culling l.irnselfPazu’./lforrau, was appre-
hended in Vevay as being one of the impostors
described by the mayor of Pliiladelpltia, whose
story was, that all his property, with that of seve-
ral others, had been totally destroyed by the over-
flowing of the river Rhine in (icr-.n-any. VV. C.
Keen, Esq. however, defaced his credentials, and
‘let him run agaiti, after l't:fUll(lll‘lg the money re-
ceived in that place.-—'l‘he saute fellow was again
detected and expo:-.ed at Jellersomille, immedi-
ately afterwards, having with hint new documents.
One would have thought that these repeated
checks and warnings, so publicly known, would
have made this genius rather cautious in his per-
smbulations in this state. at least ; bttt the result
shetvs him :1 villain, master of his trade, as dead
to sliame, as lost to every principle of morality.
He came a few days since, to the residence of
Isaac Blackford, esq. a few miles from Vinceunes,
well mounted, and his travelling equipage in good
style and order. He entered the house, present-
ed his credentials, and was desired to take a seat.
Judge Blackford being aware of the whole system,
kept him in conversation until the arrival of some
neighbors, when a search was proposed and com-
menced; the result was, the tliscover_v ofdil’l'er-
ent documents in blank, English and Germans‘
ready to be filled at discretion, three pocketbooks,
two ofthem stuffed with bank notes, which were
concealed in different parts of his dress ; the poor
soul solemnly protested with tears in his eyes,that
he had not a dollar in the world ; and as soon as
one article was discovered, he would cry and pro-
test that he had no more, till another was pttlled ,
ottt, when he would renew his tears and intreaties. "
After taking from him the implements of his
trade, this fellow was permitted to escape with -
his money, which was an error in the gentlemen I
who searched him; but it was an error on the_
side of mercy, which the vagrant was glad to a- i
Vail himself of. It is conjectured he had two or
three thousand dollars in good money with ltim, ,
which he has so shamelessly obtained from the '
