years--viz: until the I)eclaration of VVar be-

perplexities of an Indian war. Five hundred men
were immediately impressed and sent to giiartl
the exposed plantations. VVe are not able to
give a minute account of the onsets and murders
committed by the savages in this war—but nia-
ny valuable settlements were deserted and burnt
by the enemy--and matiy people were slain and
carried into captivity. During this war, viz. in
1745, the repeated attempts of the enemy upon
Annapolis Royal, which was prevented from full-
ing into their hands by a re-inlorcemcnt from
these colonies, and the imminent danger our
trade and fishery were exposed to, aroused the

gage in an expedition against Louisburg, a strong
fortress on the Island ol'Cape Breton. The ex-
